Anachronistic Ratchet

OK, so I found this rather weird Snap on ratchet on ebay:

The weirdness is that its an old style ratchet with the latest Logo stamped into it. AFAIK this style ratchet hasn't been produced since the sixties. Anyone able to shed some light?

Didn't buy it because the seller wants more than a genuine 40's ratchet is even worth.

You didn't give a link to the EBay item but believe it or not SO made a 1/2" drive flat ratchet into the '80's S71 ! The logo used in that era was the same as this item thou you can't see it in this catalog link:

Is there a market full of counterfeit SO tools? Recently members think something isn't SO just because they haven't seen it. Are SO products like Louis Vuitton purses?

Those were made at least well into the 90's. When I was in tech school, '01-'03. Buddy had one, broke it and got a brand new one.

I have the 40s version of that ratchet... it needs a new lever for direction though. I currently have a cotter pin in the lever spot.

SO still sells the ratchet kit for the S71 (RKRA71) and the lever is available as a separate item (L710-5).
I am unsure if it would work in your '40's ratchet but as far as I know these ratchets always had 24 teeth gears.

So what's the year on the one shown? Can it be read on the original pic? I can see it but can't quite read it as shown on my computer.

I am sure they made that ratchet into the late 90's but I believe they still made it in the early 2000's but not sure. They are good basic ratchets. There have been several threads about it here in the past.

I had one that was Chromed.. I believe from the 90's, IRC Woody73 bought it off me.

Thanks for shedding the light, never thought it was counterfeit, SO are always producing brainteasers like this. Funnily enough it was advertised as a "Vintage" ratchet, which of course it isn't with that logo on it.
