Anchor Bolts

Reading another thread here mentioned pressure treated lumber eats away at metal that is touching it. I am going to use a pressure treated base plate on top of my slab and was going to use anchor bolts to hold it down. Am I go to have trouble later with the bolts being eaten away by the treated lumber?

If so what should I use?

Do I need any any special nails to go through the plate into the studs?

I have always just used regular nails and bolts with pressure treated lumber, but I am going to try and do this right.

This is new to me. I always used galvanized nails or treated screws only to keep them from rusting outside. Indoor s I use regular nails screws.

the newer pressure treating methods are highly reactive to uncoated steel. if you look at a lot of plate manufactueres like Teco and Simpson, they offer triple zinc coated hardware just for pressure treated wood (Simpson calls it Z-Max and has a "Z" suffix on applicable harware part numbers) I honestly feel that this is more of a problem for sheetmetal and thin plate where minor corrosion can cause major loss of structural integrity. Something like an anchor bolt is much heftier and is unlikely to lose enough material to be a problem in your lifetime. Just make sure the anchor bolts you use are hot dip galvanized and nut just bright zinc coated and you'll be fine.

You might be surprised - I've seen 1/2" bolts less than five years old that I could snap with my bare hands they were so corroded...

I helped my brother-in-law replace part of a termite damaged wall in his house. The anchor bolts had pretty much crumbled into dust without it even being pressure-treated wood. I put in a bunch of new anchor bolts but we didn't use pressure-treated wood. Does everyone use pressure-treated wood for this purpose?

I installed a new pre-hung exterior door in my house last year. It has an aluminum sill plate. I remember somewhere on the instructions it said not to let the sill rest on pressure treated wood.
That was not a problem for me but I wondered why at the time. Now I know!

My concrete contractor and building inspector had never even heard of this, and the consequences of using standard hardware with the new-type pressure treated lumber is "undetermined" according the spec developing agencies.

However, the use of stainless steel anchor bolts is considered a guaranteed way to prevent corrosion problems related to the use of the new-type pressure treatment in lumber, but they ain't cheap! Nobody had a proposed solution to the nailing part of the issue other than to say to use zinc-plated nails.

were they galvi or black iron?
I've seen black iron anchor bolts rust away sitting on my shelf
