Hi - just picked up a Coats 10 10 tire changer.. I need to keep it mobile so I can move it around in a tight garage but need it to be locked in place when I use it, any ideas? I was thinking about putting locking wheels on it but am not sure it will stay still during use. It weighs about 300lbs. Thanks!

I would try to fab wheel mounts that allow it to raise to move and lower when using. There are some equipment dollies made to do this, just have to make sure it can take the weight.

Luckily you have a Coats 10-10 which doesn't rely on the wheel being on the floor to break the bead. Just make a platform with lockable casters - bolt the machine to the platform, and call it a day :)

The larger the platform, the more stable the machine will be while in use. Or,... perhaps you can make 'stabilizing swing arms' that come out of the platform to stabilize it while in use (like a mobile crane)!? As long as it doesn't tip over, you're A-OK!

Thanks for the ideas, I thought rather than put wheels on the machine itself, I would run 2x4's along the sides with the wheels attached to them. I will see about locking wheels. Does a 3 or 4 inch wheel make a difference? thanks

If you thought you could apply this concept to other machines, a pallet jack makes a heck of a mobile base for things much heavier than that, and then you can play "machine tetris" ;). However to get that setup going for just 1 machine is probably not worth it.

I recently picked up a Triumph changer. It has tabs on it. I plan to put it on wheels.

I have a Coats 20/20, I just put it on an old steel bread cart. No locking wheels, it has not rolled away or moved when in use. By the design of those old tire machines they don't tend to move around.
