I bought SDTC Tech U-Shaped PVC Water Pipe Clamps for 25mm OD, compatible with 3/4" ID PVC pipe as a way to anchor PVC pipe frames for holiday decorations, e.g. I have a garland ziptied to a PVC frame and it tends to be top heavy so it falls over in high wind. I tried it out by inserting a pipe and wow it's super tight, which is great for when the wind gets up there. However, the screws that they come with do not look like they can handle the force necessary to remove the PVC frame from the clip after the holiday season is over. I would more than likely strip the screws that come with it out than remove the PVC pipe from the clamp.
I'm trying to determine the best screw to use. Looking for some kind of stainless steel exterior wood screw. What length should I go for? I think right now I'm looking at a minimum of 1 1/4" as most of the screw locations would be above windows, though I won't know how much wood I have for sure until I try to drill. Pretty much all locations would be above a door or window, though I would put the clamps near the soffit or porch roof ceiling.
The other aspect is trying to keep moisture out, so if you have a preference, what would you use to help seal the screw out from any moisture? The screw head would be flush in the slot, but there is a gap between the PVC clamp material and the wood it's anchored to.
Some of these would be in the sun year-round, so not sure if there's anything I can do to make these last a little longer from UV degradation.
I could also file a little PVC material from the clip so that the force necessary to remove PVC pipe is not as high, but hard to know what's the best recommendation for my use case.
Any thoughts?
