Anchors / fasteners for lath & plaster

I just moved into an 109-year-old house (with a 102-year-old garage) and I need to attach stuff to the lath & plaster walls.

I started reading about anchors, and it's too much information. Everyone claims to make the new, greatest invention for anchoring to lath and plaster, but I'm looking for practical knowledge. I am new to Garage Journal, but I can tell this is the right place to get real-world answers.

It would make sense to break this down by "light", "medium", and "heavy" objects. Most pictures would be "light". Mirrors would be "medium", and a Caterpilar D-9 would be "heavy". Actually, scratch the "heavy", since I wouldn't mount anything heavy without finding a stud.

I would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

Sorry fellas. I just found the "search" feature (I told you I'm a newbie), so you can ignore my question. I'm sure I'll find something else to ask you in the future.

Thanks!

Whatever you use, DO NOT try to drive a nail or such in. Take your time and predrill, and preferably use something that screws in. If you hit whatever with a hammer you stand a chance of knocking the keys off of the back of the lath and it will let your plaster come loose. Not a fun thing there. I've remodeled three homes with plaster and lath and hated each one.
