This was my dad's dads. My dad who is 58 said he used to jack up my grandfathers house with it. Only markings are the 2x8, which I figure is two inch shaft, 8" rise. Any idea on a make or year?

Fairly standard old style screw type bottle jack, and yep your dad is right, mainly used for leveling buildings, or supporting a beam while replacing the sill it sits on.

Without markings it's anyone's guess who made it or when. It appears to have a lot of wear at the screw. so it's been well used.

I have some of those type screw jacks. They are getting harder to find.

I use them for lifting and securing farm tractors when I work on them.
