Converting the existing garage to office space for my wife's on-line business and adding on a new 4 car garage plus a few small extras.

Contractor is hired, permits approved and they started laying out forms yesterday. I guess we will be moving cars into it in November or December.

I will add updates and photos when something notable happens.

Oh my how slow these things go! Contractor set a few forms and the plumber did his rough-in work. Then the rains came and we waited DAYS for the people from Frontier to come relocate our Tv.Phone.Internet service. It was finished on Friday and today they came and set our in-ground tornado shelter. Now that it is in place, we can concentrate on getting the slab done.

Just a couple quick thoughts from a newb (to GJ. Not the building industry.).

Who specs a two-eight (2'-8" wide) man door for a garage? Oh my goodness. 3'-6" minimum in my book. With a personal preference to 4'-0".

Don't skimp on 120 volt convenience outlets. This is your one chance to get it right. If your .pdf plans are what you plan to install I would suggest doubling that (or halving the spacing). "Yes" it's more circuits. But you only get this one chance while you have all these building resources rounded up. Also consider getting them located higher up than the standard height off the floor that is something like 15 1/2".

I might consider swinging one or both powder room doors OUT and not IN.

I have visited the electric plan a hundred times. Given where my benches and cabinets will be I think we will get it covered. While I would LOVE to have outlets all over the place I do have a budget to try and keep. I can ALWAYS use an extension cord and even have a 50' retractable one we will be mounting in the ceiling.

My main workbench has 8 outlet power strips attached at each end. The cabinet I use for charging my Milwaukee M18 stuff has a power strip built in there, as well. We have four cars to keep here but if one is in the "shop" it will be sitting by the bench and the toolboxes are right there as well.

The 1/2 bath is very small and the doors will be okay. I will look at changing the swing on one so they don't potentially collide.

Hose bibs....Well there are hose bibs in the older part of the house and they should be enough. But I can always add hose adapter to the sink if I need water from a hose. Another item that gets dropped because I didn't win the lottery yet.

When I did my remodel I had a few locations for things to be added later if later ever comes. Power and coax and network cables come to mind. The wire is there but not hooked up and I added it myself during construction.

Not on the drawings that I posted but we are pulling data cables in a few places. Not sure about the COAX but I still have time to decide.

I tend to agree with having to narrow of a door. I don't know what the office business is but you have limited access to the old garage. If possible add a big door between the old and new garages to move larger pieces in and out. Think ahead to what future uses may be. If you look at my build you find a removable panel between the two spaces. I did't want to spend for a big door there, but still have the access if necessary. I also have a 4' man door entering the shop.

After countless rain delays and few contractor issues we FINALLY have a slab poured. Waiting for the cure and then we can get some walls up!
