After much thought I decided to go with VCT for my flooring. I think I made the right decision. I had laid it previously in another home and was happy with it, except for the fact that I didn't seal it, and it got stained up pretty good before I had the chance.

I may go with a urethane clear over it later on, but for now I just waxed it up.

Finished sheet rocking over the cement foundation on one wall and threw up some auto art. Momma has her spot (which she only uses in the winter months, to give me some space for piddling around indoors) and I have mine. One of my favorite renovation parts was the use of the diamond plate. It's actually a plastic material,easy to cut, and WAY cheaper than the real stuff I had planned on. Check it out on Ebay......great deal.

The garage is standard 2 car width, but was pretty long....30' on one side and 26' on the other. So, I build it out, making a 10 x 10 shop and a 10 x 10 "stuff" area. I keep NOTHING in the garage area, 'cept the cars

Last house we had, we never could fit a car in the garage during the 9 y's ears we lived there..not this time !

Jim, I just used the liquid stuff they sell at HD, rented their buffer. Put about 5 coats on with a mop and buffed in between.

Yup. They were asbestos tiles back then, but now just vinyl. Picked up my kid from school the other day and noticed that they're still using it today.

Naw that's VCT (vinyl composition tile) in your kids school. They have been removing VAT (vinyl asbestos tile) from schools around here since the 80's. Unless you work with it, you can't really tell the difference just by looking at it.

Even though VAT was a much better product and more durable and easier to work with than VCT. VAT is actually harmless unless it is broken up or sanded and creating dust. Then it becomes very dangerous. And even just as dangerous was the adhesive used back then, which they actually used asbestos as a main ingredient in the glue.

I wasnt saying my kids' school was asbestos, just that schools way back used it. I didn't know that though, that they used asbestos in the glue too. Learn something every day.

RT - It holds up (after sealing) very well to water, but I have to admit that it can get very slippery when wet. I may throw down some indoor / outdoor carpet in the winter time to deal with that.

Looks awesome!,I've debated over the years as to what to do with mine.Right now it's just raw concrete,very smooth and very few small stains.My biggest shop problem is light,i have 9 double bulb lights on the ceiling and it's not bright enough.I like VCT and have used it,myself i would go with the lighter grey for better light reflexion,but my concern has always been the same,How will it hold up against a floor jack or engine stand?I worry about concentrated weight in a small area from the steel castors.

First thing on my list is to sheetrock and paint the shop ceiling,that's 80%of my lighting battle,next would be the floor.

Nice job ! I had to go back and look again when I read these were vinyl tiles. I didnt even see the seams at first and just assumed $$$ epoxy or similar. Very nice
