I would buy any window other than Anderson or any other brand by the same owners just due to my bias and hatred for them. Not due to the quality of windows. If your in the pacific northwest do not use polar Bear for installation.

I am curious why you have hatred for the owners of Andersen?

Wanted to charge me 10,000 for five 3' wide windows. And I do not believe their product is any better than ykk or other brands that use quality glass. USA, Italy and Canada are the only countries I have seen windows from sold in USA. Japan has fine windows but sourcing those would probably be not an easy task.

I'm sure there is more to this story that you are not telling.
They have distributors all over the web that publish pricing.

First 2 pictures are of my kitchen window installation. It's an Anderson window. I don't know the model number, but I'm pleased with the quality and price. The entire job cost me $700 (window, trim & materials), compared to the $7K - $10K quoted from contractors.

The third picture is 1 of 2 dormer windows made by Jeldwen. A little lower quality than the kitchen window, but on the second floor, I felt that I didn't need to pay more. Around $300 for both windows, trim and materials. better than the $1200 contractor quote.

A previous poster in this thread wisely put it that all brands have their low and high end.

So, you hate the owners and the company just because you got a price quote you felt was too high?

My guess is you got a quote from Renewal by Andersen, and yes, their prices are sky high. The windows Renewal by Andersen sells are pretty good, but not that special for the price. The silly thing is Andersen 100 series windows have much of the same technology for a fraction of the price.

Yes, I have Andersen windows, but I really wanted Canadian made fiberglass windows. I couldn't wait the three months or more for the Canadian windows as it would have been well into winter before the windows could be installed. (House was sitting with no windows and housewrap over the openings.)

Yes I mentioned it was a bias and had no real reason but my parents house who have about 25 windows only paid 8,000 for the same windows I was quoted for 5 windows. I can't tell much difference between them and the Marvin that I put in. The Marvin and Anderson quotes were both for triple panes. Marvin charged me 2500$. But I guess Andersen needs to pay for all that advertising. Quality wise I feel they are just as good as most others that are not construction grade. I have only rehabbed five houses ages 63-89. Four of the houses I replaced the windows each time using different manufacture. Since it is hard to tell quality from a showroom. I have yet to use Fiberglas windows each time I used double or triple pane vinyls.

I used to live in Thief River Falls. Knew many people at Marvin. They have a superior product! Would also say from my parents experience, Anderson is right there with them!

I decided on Andersen 100 series with low-e glass from a local supplier who was very helpful in going through the options.

Every window and door manufacturer has products at every price point.
Plain Jane window at $365 or one all best features, best glass, wood interior .....at $1850.

400 series casements... been in multiple homes 15 yrs+ Seem like a decent mid-priced window. If I had the dough, I'd be looking for European style tilt and swing windows.

Excellent choice. I have those in my walkout basement and 400 series upstairs.

If you don’t want a wood interior I think the 100 series is probably about as good as the 400 series.

Firebrick43, I would bet a rotted window was probably due to an installation issue. I built 18 years ago spent extra money on insulation and Anderson doors and windows, it is a very quiet efficient house. All of the windows are fine.

No, it the moveable sashes not the frames. It's Andersen's fault.
