Great progress on the build today - the weather turned out soooo nicely here....the best autumn weather for quite some time, sunny, no wind and nice temperature 18C (64F)....

One of my best friends stopped by and supported me in finalising the modules towards the neighbour.
5e0f20d77c6610aaab2b568e6faeb12a.jpgLast wall module, just before placing it.

We put them into place as well and fixed them - they were heavy, but it actually was less the struggle that I had been fearing and it came so nicely in place... Also managed to get some roof beams up - now you really feel the room and ceiling height!

Let the pictures do the speaking

Stay tuned....

Gents,

Some more progress today, finalised the mounting of roof beams, it really makes it to a room...
5889ffa1f9f0b361d19a25f15ce50328.jpg
Especially the opening for the sky-window creates something special in my opinion...
ef0a6c145ad5f9b25a2603dab5befadf.jpgSky view

Furthermore I got the small wall part next to the garage door made, and done some preparation for some stabilising units, three in long facade towards the neighbour and one in the short end opposite the entrance.
cb80e8ffcca7e0bb84d4fd52c0816794.jpgPanoramic view

Putting an effort into getting the sky-window at a good price, final stage has started, hope to order it within a few days, so I can go on finishing the roof, and get the outer closed - Autumn are coming closer, have had some fantastic days lately but later the coming week three days of rain are expected....and I'm looking forward not to be dependent on the weather!

Frank

Returned after one week vacation in southern part of Sweden enjoying the Autumn with the family, four generations in the same house; my girls and wifey, dad, and grandparents - old tradition my dad and his parents came there first time in '64 [emoji15]
Nice weather this year, and beautiful colours in the woods...
1c182723dcf9c5ba82d1cfa7430ce194.jpg
Nice, quite, and peaceful....

Today I returned to the build [emoji1], during the vacation I've managed to order the door and the window towards the garden, so I could place the rest of the framing and place the "wind breaker".

Let the pictures do the talking...

Continuing with other preparing details to be ready for the roofing and skylight tomorrow...

Came a few steps further today, secured the framing with some steel wind drag strips anchored to the footings securing the roof to stay on in heavy winds...

And a big achievement - test fitting the car into the garage [emoji1][emoji1] actually I find it quite spacey on the sides of the car - actually it feels more spacey than when I park in the driveway due to the hedge....

28a479b53c2e9931c49fd24286599a80.jpg With the doors fully opened - really good....

Looking so much forward to close the roof so that the car can go inside for the night now when it gets colder and to give my the ability to work on the inside stuff no matter the weather conditions....

Last Friday I've finally received my sky-light.... Arrived home at 2pm (short day at the office, needed to prioritise what's important [emoji15]) but no sky-light - so I was sure that I didn't get it that day.... Started calling around - but the. The delivery truck showed up with the sky-light!

One of my friends stopped by, and we got it installed same afternoon [emoji106]
35e28d91fb6505cd0de62bd5e7575b2f.jpg Sky-light installed

Already Saturday night the mounting was tested, when one of the first Autumn storms arrived from the west - and with the sky-light as the only thing on the roof, there were the risk of wind going under, and dragging it off.....so I didn't sleep that well during the night - but everything lasted but it made some noises with a half-finished build in the wind...these days more wind are coming, but the weather are very mild (for November until now, we have an average temp. of 10.4C (51F), where the normal are 4.7C (40F)) so that I appreciate a lot....

Today the roofing materials arrived, received a text message from the timber trade company that the materials was delivered - the weather was sunny and warm, so early take-off from the office and home to do some roofing....managed to do a quarter of the roof - so I'm satisfied with the result (it was really dark when I stopped working for today at 6pm, so pictures must wait for tomorrow)!
Continues tomorrow afternoon calling for an early weekend - and do some progress - winters coming at any time now, so it's about to close the outside tasks so I can focus on the inside (electrical, insulation and so on) details independent of the weather outside.....looking forward to that for sure....

Frank

The skylight detail is awesome! What a great idea.

Thanks @Denwood I find the detail cool as well, adds some more height and for sure creates some nice light into the garage - will post a picture tomorrow when the roofing are done, then I really think it shows how cool it really are....

One of my friends stopped by this afternoon, and we worked until 6:30pm (it gets pretty dark around 5-5:30pm at this time a year) tonight and managed to almost finalise the roofing - will be tomorrow!

Thanks for your cheerful comments and replies...

Today I've managed to finalise the roofing, except for some minor details saved for tomorrow!

Let the pictures do the talking...

b14728b4cd95b27d2c4a307daad50687.jpg And.....Outside-in.

I really like the sky-light - it brightens up the room and creates space/air, I know that the missing garage-door let in a lot of light at the moment, but think it makes a difference...

Got the final part of the roofing done today, supported by nice and sunny autumn weather....how lucky can someone be?!

And if everything goes as planned, the "roof guys" can do the first layer of roofing felt tomorrow, Monday, and second layer on Friday....then we are closed up for the winter, waterproof and ready for more indoor work, as electricity and insulation....as the first indoor tasks!

0ed5f69e16e2ca3c8b0db304a8111181.jpg High humidity in the air today, but sunny and no wind - real pleasure and boosting the mind...

No roofing felt today - it has been raining all day [emoji30] The forecast had said cloudy with some showers in between....but it was wrong!
Tomorrow before lunch looks promising but Wednesday as wet as today....so we will see what will come!

After a rainy and very wet week, Friday's weather was fine so the roofing guy got time to do the first (of two) layer of roofing felt [emoji1][emoji106] so now the garage are "waterproof" from above....
bd04335e77aab0accaf20e78ae84b2e2.jpgFirst layer of roofing felt applied and the skylights are temporary removed in order to get the felt up under the skirt of these lights and secure the roof waterproof.

Today it was also time for tire swap - the summer are over [emoji30] and the weather forecast predicts first snowstorm for the next 12 hours or so, with lots of snow (10 to 30cm | four to 12 inches) followed by heavy wind (10-15m/s | 22 to 30mph) and dropping temperatures (-5C to -10C | 23F to 14F)
8ffbef4875131590268bd0b063f06b84.jpgFirst indoor (at least under roof and within walls) tyre swap in the garage! Pure pleasure to do that in dry conditions and on an entire flat surface, easy to use the jack - actually my dad stopped by, and we did a tyre swap on his Audi Allroad as well....

It has snowed for seven-eight hours now, already got eight centimetres (or three inches)....
fbe7c4016d8ca95a65cbb7c7d8fb15cd.jpgWinter is here..... [emoji300] but luckily I'm ready - almost - for indoor work on the build, by tomorrow I will have an closed outer shell, except for the garage door, but good enough for start doing wiring and insulation job.

Let's call it good timing, Denwood - but actually I was very lucky, and I'm very happy about that....
Also with the tire swap - ready on winters two and a half hour prior to the first snow flakes where in the air......that's timely! [emoji15]

Studded tires?

When do you think you will have the garage door in place? You may be able to work in the cold but you don't get much done. A little heat will really help you get to the end of your project.

We (people in Denmark) usually do not use stutted tyres, only winter tyres, with best performance below 7C (45F) and specially made for snow and mud (marked M+S) - normally enough for our winters, but further north; Sweden, Norway, Finland goes with studded tyres, and also have rules to have winter tyres on - unfortunately we don't have that kind of rule in DK, last night resulting in people driving 30km/t (20mp/h) on the freeway - that calls for dangerous situations when all others tries to pass these vehicles....

The delivery time on the doors says around week two, 2016, but usual our December temperatures are around 0-5C (30-40F) so as long at other sides of the garage are closed there will be almost no wind inside, so with proper clothing it will be fine...

This morning we woke up to 25 to 32 cm (10 to 12 inches) of heavy snow, wet and the temperature are just above freezing point!

Going to be a nice garage Frank. Did that concrete truck have a conveyor to feed it to the back or a built in pump? Have never seen one like that. Here we would have needed a dedicated pump truck to pump the concrete where needed.

Cool truck either way.

You are getting snow, we just had a nice prelude to summer starting in a week or so with a day hitting over 40C (104F).

Sorry to hear of your mum passing.

Cheers Grumblebum.

@Grumblebum, Thanks it will be, and I'm so excited in every progress... The two trucks there have been here, where different - for the footings it was a special model, on-side mixing, this one only had a six meter (20ft) slide. The other one (chosen due to the first ones limitation) was a standard Danish concrete truck with a 15 meter (50ft) supply belt, that were actually fine and it reached all the way in except the last two-three meters (seven to nine feet) but it was easy to push the concrete the last distance...

The snow are gone again, past week has been with s lot of rain and temperatures around 4 to 10 degrees C (40 to 50F).

Ordered my garage door yesterday, awaiting the delivery time at the moment, but expected are around week 4, 2016.

Frank

Nice build, and greetings from a fellow Dane:lol:

Are you planning on fitting a "lip" at the bottom of your cladding, or is the cladding simply offset from the foundations ? (en drypnæse under profilpladerne)

I take it the technical drawings were the one you sent for councill approval (which is just a formality when under 50m2 as you mention), but are their specific rules when the garage is fitted directly on to the house.. Do you need a certified material in the joining wall with regards to fire hazard??

@Leaky-Shed DK, Thanks - nice with other Danes here... The drawings were send for approval, but no comments for the materials used.
For the cladding, I have an offset from the footings on 45mm (1 3/4in) to the back of the cladding, so I don't find I necessary...

Some progress today, mounted the window towards the garden (the door was fitted last week), and I've also added some light (work lamp) today. As well put up a tarpaulin covering the entrance...
So early this evening I did enjoyed one of the advantages by having something pretending being a garage, interior cleaning of the car without caring for the weather - this is what I have looked so much forward to!
d68146ebca97cce56a91ee30b84a76e6.jpgPleasure to do some vacuuming of the car - it was highly needed...and afterwards a wash, and now the car are put away in dry and protected condition, so nice not having a dirty car in the morning due to rain and wind during the night like nomally.....

Some pictures of the progress...

Today I've started installing the electricity by mounting the wires inside the wall frames; settled the plan for the entire electricity from the main house, wires for sockets, wires for outside lightning.
Tomorrow continues with wires everywhere, getting ready for light-groups.....

It's fun and progressing work - trying to do one thing at the time, so that I'm not forgetting any details, it's really to get this right - when walls and ceiling are done, it's to late (or just some kind of more time consuming) to change or add more!

Unfortunately not much to show on pictures, it's just getting messy with all the wires....

Frank

Happy New Year, dear followers [emoji322][emoji898]

Update on the progress, spend some time on doing the wiring - and I must admit that it took some effort to have it done, and meters after meters of wires, ended on around 350 meters (1,200ft) on various types to all my electrical stuff - and yes might have over-done it but that's better than missing something afterwards.... And I think I've made some cool solutions on the lights - you will see!

Between Christmas and new year I've finalised the last installations for the walls, and started insulation...
ae9a3b162d74a153d106b46e5ca2d787.jpgInsulation started on the outer wall.

Today my dad came over and gave me a hand all day long - and we'll continue tomorrow....

Finalisation of wall insulation parallel with making the drywall.
974a46e93c7053eec1d8b20d3de76de9.jpgReady for drywall
f5f6ca337d2bcae39f449d008b3325ac.jpgDrywall in the making
ff0b67bdbafe6c35bd0e7a54f9d5142d.jpgDrywall ready for finishing

The plan at the moment are to complete most possible of wall and ceiling, approximately 3.5meter (12ft) in from the garage door, before week three (most likely the weekend 23rd 24th) due to delivery of my garage door in that week, would prefer to install it soonest possible after delivery.
Due to work (professional) I'm in China [emoji630] all next week, and some days in Italy [emoji634] on the week of delivery, leaving only weekends available for progress - that gives the needed focus on importance.....

But it takes nice shape and the result and the quality we perform it in makes me proud!

Frank

Today some more progress, first corner of the ceiling are made - and we're progressing nicely....next weekend I will make a mirroring of what you see!
The acoustic plates are only for test-fitting hence I couldn't get the right once today - so I bought some cheaper once in same size to progress...

Some progress the last days once again....

The garage door came when I was on a two-day trip to Italy, so my dad went over to get the door in from the driveway, didn't like to have it standing in front of the house - found it quite easy for some one to pick it up and leave with it...

Monday evening we started the installing of the door - which were some kind interesting, because I realised that it was five centimetres (two inches) too high to actually fit in...... [emoji15]
But we succeeded in removing some of the over-height by modifying the guides with three centimetres and putting the drag-chain for the automatic door opener levelled in the ceiling instead of hanging under the ceiling....so with a few tricks and some cutting and measuring it fits - now!
8ab27142a2356ce2cff32985390ffae4.jpgGarage door just installed

For some weeks ago I've ordered the acoustic panels (you can see three similar, just another brand and colour, put up for easy fitting of the plaster ceiling around them) for the ceiling, but they where out of stock, and I was informed about a delivery time of three months [emoji15] amazing, they are real standard panels.....but I can do the rest of the ceiling - Friday my neighbour (and carpenter) called and said that the panels are here now.....so delivery time changed from three months to two weeks?! Don't ask, why and how.....

Frank

Agree GB - it is a great thing, and one of the reasons by ordering a higher door than the door opening - having it hanging close to the ceiling and "invisible" from the outside when it's opened...

Have had some busy times, so I've been away from the forum for some time... Now it's Easter and I had the time to picking up on some of the threads!
Just found my own, and realised that something also happened in my build as well....

My dad has been supporting a lot, we have been putting up the ceilings, first some acoustic panels, one area around the sky-light and another area at the workshop area. Then around these panels will be normal plaster ceiling...

One night we used the garage to do some surgery on the tailgate on my dads Audi Allroad
56eeb63035ea324fef0d4ad81052707d.jpg That evening I've realised how cool it was to have this garage, walk around indoor, nice conditions and not being weather dependent!

The night after we continued with the plaster ceiling - and as well remembered to enjoy the time as well.1dc67597eee5901589d88c27287fcde3.jpg

Drywalls and ceiling are done (minor details missing) and I'm awaiting a painter to stop by and have a look (and quote the task) into sanding, and painting walls and ceiling - I'm really not a painter guy!

And as you might notice in the garage, I've just picked up a new car in Germany last week. It has been at the inspection and were approved to go on the Danish roads. I have as well applied for the registration fee at the Danish tax authorities, and are awaiting their judgement - and are just thrilled and can barely wait to have the option by paying the same (or slightly more) in tax as I payed for the car in Germany, in order to get the license plates on it....

Danish people, are born happy - and taxed to death!

I had a friend with me, he's strong in BMW's and as well in German language as I am.... We flew to Bremen from Copenhagen, and was picked up by the dealer in the airport, inspected the car and went for some temporary license plates to export it to Denmark...

European road trip! I did a similar trip when I bought a Cadillac in Cleveland and drove it 1000's of km home. Congrats on the new purchase. Sorry about the taxes.

Agree Rick, road trips are cool - unfortunately my M135i wasn't that far away, only around 500 km (300mi), but good thing though was that a lot of the freeway (Autobahn) in Germany was without speed limit, and that gave the opportunity to legally test the top speed of the car [emoji6][emoji1][emoji1303]

Taxes didn't kill me - I think that I've got it in to a fair price, approx. 15% lower than if I've bought it in DK.
