Cool new addition. Thats a great colour, miss my grey GLI.

Dubber, I love this colour it is so easy and in combo with the space grey alloys it takes some time before it looks dirty.....

But must admit that I also misses the Estoril Blue, know that a lot of my friends hated that colour - but I liked it.

Time for an update on the progress in my garage build, it has been a long time without any news - however there has been some progress though.

All the ceiling and drywall work are completed, and I decided to hire a professional painter to do the fairing, grinding, felt work, and paint job. For a couple of reasons; I'm not good at it, I'm not patience enough, and I have quite high expectations to the result, it needs to be really sharp and good looking in the end, I have to look at it every day and enjoy being in the garage........unfortunately the company I made the contract with couldn't deliver what agreed and expected, so after one change of re-doing the mistakes we couldn't agree on any further idea in continuing the collaboration!
So I've refused to pay the second half of the price, and he left the project - now I'm considering running a trail on him, because it also ended that way that he wasn't part of the quality-organisation (securing me as a consumer, covering these types of incidences) - so now I have to decide if I will spend the effort and to find out what I can gain or waste by doing it. Because it will also mean that I cannot proceed until we have settled everything with the trial.
What also challenging me, are that he has done harm to other things, such as a plastered wall, some ceiling elements (the acoustic panels), and my garage door, all of this to a value larger than what I owe him in missing payment!
And the finish of his work are still not satisfying at all...

After this I have been a little on pause - simply can't find the motivation to proceed! But I'm sure it's come again - soon - hopefully! [emoji15]

Also done some electrical work (under supervision of a pro as well, to do the legal parts of electrical installation). All sockets and lights are installed.

Automatic "approach lights" LED-strip turns on by a movement censor when opening the garage door or entering from the house - gives a light level enough to navigate around in the garage, similar solution are made for the workshop area.

One more with the "approach lights" on.

Next, are to do the outside cladding. The cladding will match my shed placed in front of the house.

Frank, I just LOVE the precise level of finishing in your garage. I really envy the attention to detail you see in Europe vs. Canada. It's on another level. Your place looks like a clean and comfortable place to spend a lot of time. Congrats. Nice BMW, too.

EDIT: Oops, I was just looking at the photos and didn't realize you were in a conflict with the contractor you hired. What exactly is it that has you upset about his work? Would you mind sharing photos?

Thanks Rick [emoji1][emoji1303] Receiving this kind of acknowledgement from you, is an absolute honour for me - your garage, and the work you do, are just amazing!

Details for me are important, and I like to have some details people don't think they will find in a garage/workshop!
Even that the garage isn't completed, I already enjoy going around and doing stuff - cleaning car or bike, has never been a greater pleasure than now...

Unfortunately the contractor didn't have the level needed, and for him details didn't count - furthermore he made damage to things made be myself or other contractors e.g. the garage door; he dropped some paint on the door (yes, I know it happens but....) and he decided to remove it with a metal tool, so I bet you can imagine how a powder coated aluminium surface looks where he has removed the paint drops! [emoji15] He also did that on the plastered brick wall, made by the mason - that wall was just outstanding, in my opinion...
Furthermore the contractor did some repair with some wrong filler, so I have different surface structure in the paint, several places there are larger areas with a very smooth/sleek structure in the paint.
And he didn't succeed in making the wall surfaces even, so when my down lights are on, you can see "shadows" down the walls...

The picture below contains a lot of small post-it notes, which I've applied to show him where paint errors were located (and this picture could be replicated for the entire work he made)

So he was a complete ignorant, in my opinion....

Long time without any updates, or other news from my point.

Work and professional travelling takes a lot of my time, when being home I prioritise the family - so it hasn't been much of work in the garage, however the summer has been with some hours in the garage, and the facade cladding has been done...

Today I have planned to go on with some, details around the garage door, garden door, and the window, getting the building ready for the winter.

The update from 23/9, were with pictures taken during the summer, when doing the cladding.

The pictures I'm adding today, are from yesterday were I did some more details, on the road side facade; eaves, framing around the garage door, and finally some inside clean up with installing some temporary shelves.

So missing some minor details around door and window to the garden and also finalisation of the garage floor, with some epoxy flooring. And the final workbench and shelving - this I'm looking into designing at the moment.

It's a product called Superwood (www.superwood.eu), model SW1 AART - 21mm thickness, and I have used three of the four available profile-types.
I've bought it pre-painted black, the white ones I painted on my own.
The SW1 AART profiles gives a great three dimensional effect with the natural light/shadow...
But I find it really expensive, materials for facade cladding (the Superwood) costed me $2,400 with a professional discount through my neighbour, he's an independent carpenter.

No, the brick walls of the house, are original 1964, and of a very high quality - so for now they will remain untouched.

Long time no see.... Everything went into daily routine, with too much of work and no focus on improving the garage, or the forum here – sorry guys!

Just a small recap; not much has happened in the garage when speaking of improvements or alternations during the time going past, started to do a lot of handwashing of my cars, and done a small aircraft cart with all my gear in – nice and handy when it comes to moving your stuff around, and as my job (professionally) requires a lot of travelling on airplanes, it was fun to bring some aircraft related into the garage as well.

Last September, the garage turned into a double actually, as I bought my dream car; a 2001 Porsche 911 Turbo [emoji4] The garage are long enough to hold two cars, so no problem having both cars in there, only challenges are when they have to go in- or out in the wrong order… However it also changed my imagination of the way I wanted my garage, originally I would have had a work space in the back – but it goes without. Still looking into making a worktop and some shelfs instead of the cheap intermediate steel ones I have now. But guess it will come…..

Currently I have started re-doing my driveway, as it’s the original from when the old carport were build 35 years ago, it was definitely not leveled anymore – and having two concrete delivery trucks into it when building my garage did not improve the look of it.

Also did my curbside/soft shoulder as it was angled, and hided the small border of stones away, think that the expression are way better now (grass will be added later) – for the entire street view of the house!

The final result! Only missing a small fence around the garbage containers, and the hedge along the entire front. But this will come in the autumn as it is much more beneficial to do when the weather are less warm, and more wet – at least it saves my expenses and consumption on water…

Yes, it’s some special concrete blocks made for driveways, paths, terraces... In Denmark most people have these done with blocks, different sizes and shapes of block - but this are the common surfaces.

Been a long time without a real progress of the interior of my garage I didn’t finalise it when I was done building it which has annoyed me quite a lot....however now I think it’s actually are beneficial as I don’t use the garage as I expected I would.

Autumn 2018 I was lucky to get hold of one of my dream cars from my youth - actually the garage was designed for one car with a workshop behind, but as I got hold of the 996tt it turned out to be a two car garage....

After some cleaning out of empty boxes etc.

Three weeks ago I made some sketching and figured out how I want it done fitting the use I have ended up having.

Last weekend I started doing som interior work in the garage, and began the work with the first visit to the local Ikea picking up some cabinets for some of my stuff.

Even this first little step did a lot of improvement for my OCD and it’s a pure pleasure stepping into the garage now.



Also installed some temporary electrical wall mounted heating units - which improved the inside climate instantly (temp. in Celsius), temperature went up and humidity down...a very nice environment to work in now.


Graphs clearly shows when heaters were installed.


Next update will be further cleaning out, then a complete emptying before “painting” the floor with epoxy surface. Then some more cabinets and a workbench.

That garage is going to be an awesome place! As you said, good thing that the usage is now clear, before starting the arrangements.

From the drawing, there are some cabinets on the left of the door. Will they be on wheels? I was just wondering, if someday you need to do some work on the side of the car(s), it can be useful to utilize the whole width of the garage. Kind of the same way you are doing length wise, with having the upper cabinets but not lower. A little bit of the same thing I will have to do with mine.

Are you keeping the garage at that temp? With the temperatures we have here in Finland, I can't keep it that warm due to costs
