I have an Anderson window in my garage attic that a bird flew into and cracked. It is like 25 years old. I never had an Anderson window problem before. Could a glass place put in new glass or should I go to a lumberyard to order up a new sash?

Order the new sash. Number of window is somewhere on the glass of frame.
Cheaper, faster and stronger than going to a glass shop and gettig a single pane of glass and trying to get it to fit the frame etc.

^This. I had an old double hung andersen window from the 70's and he bottom part of the sash rotted out. I called Andersen, told them the dimensions, and they gave me the part number to replace the sash. the Customer service was surprisingly good. I found a youtube video on how to replace the sash and it was pretty straightforward. It was about $100 for the sash.

A word of advice, if you have to remove any old vinyl to replace the sash, see what it costs for a new piece. The vinyl gets brittle with age and breaks easily.

I have 40 year old Andersens in my house. When I moved in many were broken. New sashes were $300-400 each, so I had the double pane glass replaced at the local glass shop for with new SGUs for $120 each.

I did get lucky with one window and bought the exact sashes i needed from a guy on craigslist who had them laying around in the boxes for 15 years, $40 each.
