angle die grinder- what to get ???

Can you school me on the difference between say a snap on angle die grinder and an IR or chicago pneumatic ?

I'm torn, the snap on ones on ebay are around $210. The IR ones that I see on northern tool are around $139.

I figure not too much difference on price.

Anything I should avoid or know about in terms of features ?

not much difference but the name on them. i'd get an ir or cp, no point in paying for the snap on name.

I would probably go with an IR cyclone or a Dotco if I was going to buy one. The industrial die grinders are a heck of a lot more tools than than ones you are looking at.

I need to add a couple more small ones. The ones I circle are real bargains. The 4 inch angle ones are super, have ran them hard for years, haven't fix so much as a clip on one. I was cleaning out under some benches, probably got another dozen or so.

Two things to look at on any air tool, but especially die grinders...
1: Air consumption - Cheaper ones tend to **** ALOT of air. Make sure your compressor can handle the tool.
2: RPM - Spinning your bits/discs/etc too fast will destroy them.

Not saying that you need the most expensive one out there, but I wouldnt run out and get the HF one either. I have had good luck with JET and IR air tools. We have some insanely expensive ones at work (They were $2k for a die grinder), but for most people they are overkill.

I have two Matco grinders, the first one lasted at least 15 years, the (mostly plastic looking) replacement crapped out after 2 weeks...

if you plan on using it quite a bit, you might want to look into dynabrade die grinders. Some of their bigger ones are reaallly expensive, but if you are looking for a smaller one, the prices are just a little high, but they are made in USA and have a lifetime warranty for the original owner.

I have a Sioux angle die grinder, which Snap-On rebrands. Sioux is owned by Snap-On so it makes sense to get it from them then another company.

Branding doesn't really make sense.
What makes sense is getting a good reliable tool at the best price.
If SO is just a rebranded other make then so is Sioux. JM2CW

you had me really excited until i realized it was only on the .5 Hp models. I would have ordered them in a second if it was the 1hp models. I have the straight but would like the matching 90° and wouldn't have minded another straight to bring home.

Snap-on, contrary to what you see posted sometimes, has always made their own air tools. I know they had an air tool plant in Nattick, MA that was recently closed. I understand air tool production was transfered to some other US facility. Is the die grinder different in that SO doesn't make that in house? I wonder why they wouldn't?
