Kind of an embarrassing question, but I'm trying to order some wheels for my grinder and don't have access to it right now. Do both 5/8" and 7/8" hole abrasives fit 4 1/2" grinders or is it only one or the other? My Porter Cable came with a 7/8" grinding wheel and I'm having no trouble finding flap wheels, cut-off wheels, etc. for it, but all of the wire brush wheels listed on Lehigh Valley are for 5/8" arbor. Will the wire wheels fit my grinder as well or will I need an attachment or other grinder?

The arbor is threaded 5/8-11. The clearance ring on the backing flange should be 7/8" diameter.

The wire wheels you are looking at thread on where as most of the flap wheels, grinding wheels and cut off disks clamp between the back flange and the nut.

On top of this question, is there any reason I should or shouldn't switch from 7/8" bore to 5/8-11 threaded discs?

Thinking about picking up SAIT 20060 or 20160.

I verified my grinder has a 5/8 hub, 5/8-11 above that, and a spacer with counter ridge making it work with 7/8 hub discs.

Cost. The threaded discs are more expensive. Otherwise, go for it.

Price and balance issues. In my experience then attachments with non integrated threads tend to run smoother. If I could only find cup brushes without integral nuts. :headscrat:
