Angle grinder question

Don't laugh, but I was wondering about this. On my Hitachi grinder I have always used depressed center discs. Could I also use those with no depressed center? I don't want to waste $2 finding out it wouldn't work.

Slicing or grinding? Slicing for sure you can.

Almost certainly yes. I've yet to see a guard that takes a type 27 wheel (depressed center) that does not take a type 1 (flat). The opposite is usually, but not universally true.

The advantage to a type 27 is that the nut is less in the way (so I'd pay a slight premium for these).
The advantage to a type 1 is that you can (but really should not) insert the wheel deeper into a slot (when cutting).

They will work however it depends on the type of lock nut / nuts on it. Some require a flat type with a raised surface for the disc to fit in. So you may need TWO for it to work and HOLD it securely. Take your grinder with and do a test.

Can't flush cut, and the nut gets all bunged up is a deal breaker on the non depressed version for me.
