Howdy,
I just finished up my anniversary present for my girl. Tell me what you guys think... this idea sorta came into my head randomly the other night as something unique to do for her.

Anyway thanks for any comments.

Very nice. I cut out a heart with both of our names for my wife one time for Valentines. I polished it up real nice and gave it to her. She liked it and has kept it. She keeps trying to get me to make a metal rose for her.

When I was a little kid I took a square piece of sheet metal, and used a bead roller to put a heart on it. Then I took a picture of my two sisters, and myself cut it to fit in the bead rolled heart, and glued it in. Looked great. I gave it to my Mom on her birthday. She seemed to like it.

Good job on the gift!

i would wire wheel the hell out of it, get it as smooth as possible and clear coat it, or use some rust agents to give it a cool finish ...

that said ive done the same thing for a few ladies over the years. my first metal forming project was to make a heart for this girl i was head over heels for who moved off to college on the west coast. she loved it, still has it. my current girl i really want to try to make her a rose, but feel i lack the skill

Wirebrush it thoroughly then heat a little and apply paste floor wax so it melts and gets a thin layer all over.Use a brush or rag.
Once cooled take a cloth and rub it down. The great thing about wax is after time when it gets dusty all you do is rub it with a cloth and you will always get the same original shine that you got the first time.
If you have oxy-Ace,you could get creative by discoloring the metal in spots prior to waxing.
