Another A.C not blowing cold

So...as the title says, no cold air. Upstairs fan and outside fan both run. I went to test the out side capacitor ( which is relatively new) and went to pull off the wires . Well, not good findings. As you can see, something caused a burn up in my wires. What's the opinions on why this happened?I'm thinking this is why I'm not getting cold air???

Probably just a poor crimp that caused the burn.
Your gonna have to replace that contactor and all the burnt wiring.
Sometimes there is enough wire to cut back and recrimp.

And ya that's probably why your ac is not blowing cold, my bet is that contactor is feeding the compressor.

Wires can overheat where there is a high resistance joint.

Meaning loose or poor connection, like Sammer said above.

Like a loose crimp, or anything like that, as mentioned above.

It can also happen if overcurrent is allowed, at the higher resistance spots first.

Gobbledegook aside, if your circuit is correctly protected (correct fuse or breaker size) and you have burning, in laymans terms the connection was not tight and good. Marc

Certainly there can be additional problems, but YA, first take care of the above.

replace contactor and get rid of all inches of obviously damaged wires.

I found a similar situation on my ac a year or so ago.

Extra wire from the compressor and fan were bundled and tie wrapped near the capacitor. The capacitor had failed (obvious bulging) and the bundled of wires were burned and melted. Not sure what happened first - the cap failing or the wires melting but in any case I replaced the cap and was able to cut out the bad wiring out and it has been working fine ever since

Well...i bought the new contactor, but didn't have any wire( if needed for the repair) or clips to replace. So I called a neighbor's friend to come redo the wires/clips. He repositioned the new contactor for easier wire connections , new wire and clips where needed..... $50 was the charge.. Well worth it to me, it's called piece of mind... And my pipe is back to sweating....

Se if you can find a foam tape covering(even a piece of pipe foam will do), to stop the sweating. The exposure to sunlight causes the pipe insulation to age and fail.
