Thanks for the help on my 14 thousand lb . bend pack lift install .it is up and running no leaks and all locks. lock at exactly the same time , thanks to the help on leveling it .Now I know the next question has been answered a lot BUT I am getting old and could use a simpler answer to next question I .want to install my new DeWalt single stage 60 gallon air compressor 240 volts 15 amps 3.7 hp it will be 3 feet from my 200 amp main shop panel. My plan is to use 10-2 in flex tite to the main panel question is do I use a outlet box and plug on the wall , or a disconnect box , or hard wire to panel with the 10-2 in flex seal and what size double throw breaker 25 or 20 or ? Would rather have overkill in safety then burn shop down Safety is prime concern with the power wiring.... sorry to be long but want to be through thanks in advance Great site for help .

In My Humble Opinion (IMHO) if you are only three feet from the main panel you might consider wiring a dedicated receptacle from the main panel to where your compressor will be. Your local disconnect to the compressor will be the plug on the compressor power cord.

I would not use a circuit breaker smaller than a double pole 20, IMHO a 30 amp breaker with 10 AWG wire will be appropriate for any starting loads.

I notice you have not included your location, please consult with a local competent person who is familiar with your local electrical inspector.

May you enjoy many years of service from your compressor in good health.

The circuit breaker is there to protect the wiring. As such no more then a 30a breaker with the 10/2. I have 2x 220v outlets within 5 feet of my panel & I used a plug on both. I like to be able to unplug & move stuff without having to screw with wiring.

The legal limit for plug and cord is 3 hp. This wouldn't bother me a great deal but why use more than needed here, its an advantage to get so close, use a flex pipe, an appliance whip and wire right to the panel. In pipe this could be 12 or better, 10 is easy enough too and a 30 breaker. Depends a bit if I had it on hand, these been wired 10 cable to a 30 without burning the place down but a whip is the right way.

Mine is about the same distance. Knowing I will undoubtably blocking the panel I opted for an ac disconnect with a breaker in it. Conduit to the disconnect and flex to the compressor.
Btw don’t be surprised if the lift locks don’t stay in synchronized movement. I actually like hearing both separately

Thanks everyone for your advice, I belive I will go with a disconnect box . With 10/2 from compressor to box about 3 feet then 10/2 to service panel all in that seal tight flex material. I plan to use a 25 amp breaker at the service panel, question do I use a 25 amp breakers in the disconnect box Please advise ,yes I know the locks will need to be adjusted after they stretch out a bit it will be nice to have the lift .at last at age 70 it gets harder to crawl out from under a car then to do oil change or whatever job it is Lol Thanks to all again best advice out there.a lot of good people that take the time to help.

10/2 I’d use 30 amp breaker. Shutoff can be that as well.

Why add another breaker 3 ft away? Just more stuff in the middle of a perfectly good wire. Use a 30, its common. Hardwired it could even be 12 wire.

Well after taking to two local electricians ,and explaining what I want to do they said this is how they do it and that it was ok by the codes ,double throw 30 amp breaker 10/2 to and outlet box (which will be 3 feet from service panel }in flex tite .a 240 v 30 amp outlet female and male twist lock plug ,then 10/2 gauge black wire to pressure switch which is braided wire I have 50 feet from an old RV trailer 3 wires .black white and ground ,think it is called SO wire something like that. Cut a 4foot piece off will wire to pressure switch and to 30 amp male plug. if this is wrong then I will need a break lol.::
