Ok so Eddisons will, every now and then email me about a dispersal sale or two, and usually they are far enough away from me to not even bother entertaining the idea of bidding on any of them, well that is until last week...

In a small unit outside of Nottingham lay a cavalcade of tat for the picking, from mega expensive engineering equipment right down to boxes of **** for mere mortals like me, I bid my bids, went to work, bid a bit more and then logged off, for fear of getting last minute trigger happy.

I bid on 6 lots, I won only 3, these are they:

£5 + fees for this one, there is a tap and die kit with it also (not pictured)

A little over budget on this at £16 but all the drawers are roller bearing jobbies, and there are a load of cutting/ sanding discs in the top of it.

Lastly this one, which I'll admit was a bit of a boo-boo on my part:

I took the ratchet to be a longish 1/2" drive job, and well, it isn't it's 3/4" making the scale of the box much bigger than I was expecting, the box was so heavy it required a forklift to move it from the upper floor of the unit!

Well it all got loaded into a rather creaking Xsara and whisked back to Ruff's Garage for analysis...

This is the biggest shackle I have ever seen, it's rated to 5 1/4 Tonnes! (biro for scale)

Lots more shackles amongst the chod in here, I haven't had time to look through them properly yet though!

IMAG1463.jpg

I'm assuming this is part of a lathe or a drill press? It has a maker's mark of BSA tools.

IMAG1461.jpg

Bearing swivels, used for pulling out cables apparently!

IMAG1458.jpg

These appear to be turn plates, but I'm not sure on the purpose of them.

I am more than happy with the cabinet and some of the tools, but I could do with finding out what some of the other stuff is before I chuck it on ebay.

Yeah, man, cool stuff, but all I could think of was "two countries, separated by a common language". :)

I have no clue as to what "knockings" are, all I found in that drawer were some of those self drilling screws with a security head, which I now have loads of :)

I suspect the part with the morse taper is an auto tapping head, for power driving machine taps

Yeah now I have it cleaned up, it does state it's for tapping on it, I know a chap with a big Myford lathe, so I'll take it his way and see if it is of any use.

Ok so a little update on the haul from above, I still have the big tub 'o' shackles, and I passed the autotapper and bearing swivels on for next to f'all.

The turnplates made just under £5 but I'm now at the stage where I need the space in my workshop back.

We decided that since our Estate Agents are useless, we'd look into replacing our kitchen, and I secured a nearly new one complete with oven for £200. Since I don't get a lot of free time, I've only got one cabinet in so far (Part hollow wall, no stud work ****sakes!)

This means the workshop is now at bursting point with pre-built kitchen units...

Not that it has stopped me buying more stuff of course!

The black box markets as a "Halfords Professional" Range here, and it retails for £360, this one I managed to ****** up off of a guy on facebook. It would seem he works in the family business of commercial vehicle repair and this was taken out of the back of a truck.

It's a bit dinged up, but for £25, I'm not complaining. My father in law rescued some medium duty casters from the hospital skip where he works as on call maintenance, and within a week of having it, I brought some auction lots home to keep it company.

Everything you see in the drawers & in front of the unit was from 1 auction and 3 lots in total, my overall spend was £25 which was a little more than I'd usually pay for a relatively small yield.

I'm mega impressed with the Hilka 1/4 kit though, it looks like it's never been used!

I purchased that same Hilka 1/4 in set from halfrods in Portsmouth in 1979 for 5 pounds. I still have all the bits and they are all still in perfect shape after lots of use. The ratchet still works perfectly even though I used it for lots of exhaust manifold brass nuts on steel bolts on British Leyland cars because it was the only thing I ould get access with. Just for everyones information the sockets are SAE, Metric and British Association (BA)

I've seen those same swivels on the drilling rig that I'm working on...they have them on the cables hanging from the crown that they use to lift tools up to the rig floor to keep the cable from getting twisted....I saw one (that weighted about 20lbs) come crashing down and land 1foot from where a guy was standing (it would have killed him had it hit him)

It would appear I'm making all this a habit!

Today I took a ride out to check out these sets of drawers that were being cleared out an older gent's workshop who had sadly passed away.

When I arrived, the seller let on that he had more tools that he had salvaged during the shop's clearance.

Well you know me, I'm one who struggles with temptation, so the haul grew from the drawers to what you see here:

The drawer units are very heavy and well made, there is a ruggedness to them that even Snap-On dreams of!

Also I took the opportunity to pick up this lil' Vice, it's a Record No.23, and it weighs somewhere around a ****ton, it's a quick release model and will have a good home on my workbench, as and when I can find it again!

I also took up on this cantilever tool box, although I must confess, I haven't investigated it fully yet!

Total outlay for today's haul, £25 (approx $40)

I'm very happy with that, and I'll report back once I've investigated further!

Those big shackles are gold to guys with heavy equipment. Those good quality old steel are getting hard to find with scrapping becoming so popular.
