Hi,

I've been enjoying this forum for a number of years now!
This year we bought a house which came with a decent size shed, a bit of a blank canvas.
I'll start with a couple of pics of what i bought, and then will be updating with progress as i gradually convert the inside to my dream workshop/man cave.

Project #1 was to build a trolley for my welders and gas bottle.
I don't know how this project got #1 status, it was hardly the most important thing, but i wanted to play with my new tig welder...
i'm no pro, learning as i go...

The big changes started in the last fortnight. Time off work over xmas allows me to really get stuck into it!
i didn't mind the look of the old galv. fence sheets around the bottom half of the walls, so i removed them, insulated behind and then re-fitted them with some capping on top to neaten things up.
Then went on the insulate the rest of the walls above and fit gyprok.
This is where i'm currently up to.
I still have to build a room in the corner, approx. 3.2x3.2m. This will be a clean place to keep some collectables and memorabilia...
I also need to set up a lot of shelves and benches, got lots of good ideas from this site on how to make a good mobile fabrication bench so gonna give that a go soon.
and then i can move the rest of my junk in and start working on a number of projects in waiting...

kai1980, nice welds, it looks like you have had a little practice along the way..

You are welcome here to give me a bit of tuition..

Regards

I work for a company who employ guys as aluminium welder/fabricators.
It's not what i do for a living, but it allows me to watch, and get plenty of advice.
In addition to that my father in law is a boilermaker, so plenty of help from there too...

Another welcome from up here. I think that you should have a do-over on that cart and just send it up here. I will try and find some use for it. LOL
How is the weather going now around you, hope everything is ok.

haha, i reckon i surprised myself with how well the trolley turned out... only had to add a couple of washers under one wheel because the whole thing distorted slightly from heat. but overall turned out better than i'd hoped...

weather has been nice a cool the last few days, got a bit wild before that! luckily we escaped damage, trees were down all around here though.

A friend of mine started getting into archery, so we turned the shed into an archery range. much fun was had! including a robin hood moment of an arrow going right thru another arrow!

my work had this old drill press sitting around with a dud motor for the last 6 odd years, i suggested to the boss that it was in the way and he sold it to me for a case of beer...
DSC_1119.jpg

And here's a couple of bigger projects i'll be working on once the shed is all set up.
1981 yamaha SR500, seen here with a seat i won't be using and a tank that doesn't fit....yet... big plans afoot, new front end, new wheels, lots of little custom touches.
Also a 1958 beetle (shell), haven't taken possession yet, but in the next week or so it'll be here. i'll be building a voksrod!

Has to lookup "Gyprok." Thought it would be some exotic material made from minerals only found way out in the outback. Boy was I disappointed. Big fan of Hardie Board though.

Your "shed" looks to be well built and much bigger than 22.4' by 32.8'. Looking forward to seeing how you make it yours along with the things you will be doing inside. Bring on the pictures!

Welcome.... from another GJ guy, from Adelaide also... May I say I am envious of your "shed"... I am keen to see your fit out and the progress on the projects.
As 1/2 Cup said, you have some pretty good ally welding skills.

I've spotted a couple of South Australians on here over the years...

As for my welding.... not all welds are made equal...
generally i only photograph the better ones.
here's my attempt at a long run, i'm **** at feeding the filler rod in so had to stop a few times, and it's pretty all over the place!
but, it did stick two bits of ally together which was all that was required...
eventually i hope to get into making some custom parts for cars/bikes, but i'm a way off yet...

It's a constant juggling act, moving all my **** from one corner to another so that i can make progress...
Today i cleaned out the corner that i'm going to build a room in.
marked it out on the ground, internal dimension of the room will be approx. 3300x3100.
Plan is to pick up a second hand glass sliding door. I need some steel, i'm going to have a little mezzanine on top so want to make that structure in steel to ensure it's strong enough.
Problem this time of year is finding a supplier who is open for business...
anyway, couple of pics of that corner of the shed. hopefully some actual progress in the next week or so!

One of the main things i want the room for is to have a safe place to display my collection of hotwheels cars, they're all volkswagens (unsurprisingly)... this pic is a few years old, haven't had them on display since this pic though....so looking forward to getting them up on the wall again!

Good idea

I've found that the time and cost of insulation is paid back many time over even in our climate. In winter just backing a hot car in the garage and opening the bonnet is enough to take he chill out of the air 15minutes later.
I look forward to seeing how the build continues

Cheers:thumbup:

41 degrees outside (that's about 105 american...)
not going to get much done, but i did score a nice freebie from my wife's work.
they're renovating, and were going to chuck out these stainless steel benches.
borrowed the brother-in-law's trailer and brought two home!
haven't even measured them yet, but they'll be very handy!

managed to find a spare hour today, just enough time to do a little re-arranging and move the new benches into their new home...
DSC_1217.jpg
made this pallet a while back, pretty handy!
DSC_1218.jpg
once in place the bench immediately disappears under a pile of ****.... amazing how that seems to happen!

turns out they're approx 2440x800ish (can't remember exact measurement, should have written it down!)

thanks.

biggest problem i have now is that i start back at work in a couple of days.
i've run out of time, which was always going to happen.
tomorrow i'll buy some steel to start making the structure for the room/mezzanine.

it's only a couple of weeks till Australia day, i have a 4 day weekend then to try and smash out some more progress!

The far side of crazy.. but sometimes Australia
If you want more freebie I have a couple of wide 5 centres that have been welded into 13" rims. Had intended to use them for transport rims on the Formula Vee, have since sold the Vee and don't need them.
I'm in the northern burbs, drop me a PM if you're interested.

Currently looking at my 21sqm and thinking size doesn't matter, right

some small progress on my last couple of days off work, back to it tomorrow...
building a steel structure for the room, i'll do timber studs etc. for the walls, just wanted the extra strength of steel for the span.
going to have a small mezzanine (3200x2000 approx.) up there for storing boxes, my wife insists i provide her some space in the shed, that's what she's getting!

(badly)welded a blank on the end of the 90mm square post so i could bolt it to the concrete, screwed it to the roof truss above.
_20170110_151514.jpg
DSC_1221.jpg
then started getting my horizontal beams in, they're 100mm lysaght perlins, basically a nice easy to manage 'C' section. I'm doing this on my own, so things move fairly slowly, but got the first two beams in.
_20170110_151431.jpg

and on a seperate note... a little side table thingo my mother-in-law asked me to make for her, nothing too complex, just a bit of pine with a nice grain to it. glued, sanded and cleared.
she was very happy with it, so brownie points earned! haha

thanks for the offer. already got wheel specs in mind for what i'm doing, and they'll be a tad taller than 13"...

bit jealous of the formula vee, always wanted to get one and do some hillclimbs, cheap motorsport!
