Another Bad HF Tool Experience

I thought I'd try the cheap HF pneumatic drill and angle die grinder. The die grinder spun but had no throttle control. In other words, it was always on. I couldn't stop the darn thing! Back in the box. So then I pull out the drill and drill a couple of holes with it until the thing locks up and won't turn any more. Back in the box... I guess I'll try some higher quality tools next time. The good news is that they will take 'em back with no problem but its still a waste of time.

Yea, I hear you. I broke my own rule and bought an engine crane from HF. Tons of stuff wrong with it - 8 ton ram...dead, missing bolts, bolt holes wouldn't line up. Like you said, it's a pain to take it back. I had to go out and buy another one at Advanced Auto because I had to get the engine out of the back of my pickup and I wasn't going to chance having to return another HF crane.

VIKING AIR!!!

lol

Surprising, alot of guys like those grinders because you can get them oin sale for like 6.99 and keep a different tool on each so you dont need to change burrs or grinding stones.

I resemble that remark!

And I keep a roll of blue paper towels on both the South and North walls so I don't have to walk 20' to get one! :lol_hitti

I haven't had any trouble with the HF die grinders-I give 'em a shot of oil in the air inlet before every use and they work OK.I'm one of the guys who has several with a different tool in each-saves time changing tools during a project.
If you're lubing them and not shooting a load of water or other crud through them from your airlines, they should work well.

I have that HF angle die grinder and mine works great. Maybe you gotta dud? When I was at Sears, I checked out their Cman angle die grinder and their Cman butterfly impact, and they looked identical to the ones from HF (impact even had the same specs). The Cmans were also sourced from Taiwan, just like HF. Hmmm... sometimes you get what you pay for. But you know what they say about a fool and his money...

YOu should oil all air tools before use, its possible they locked up due to no oil. Only HF ait tool I have that I dont like is the 6" palm da sander, its a big azz air hog. I have their air drills cutt off saw and several other tools. If I had to earn a living with my tools i would step up and buy better tools.

The right angle grinders seem to hold up very well, hundreds of hrs on a couple of them. Those little pencil ones are not so hot, the Husky is a better tool for the money.

I have never had a problem with a HF air tool. I have 5 die grinders, 3 straight, 2 angle and they get used quite a bit. Just give em a few drops of air tool oil occasionaly and should work fine. I've used mine alot and still no problems. Maybe you did get a dud like was mentioned here. Until I get a bad air tool from HF I cant bash them.

I have a straight HF die grinder that I used at work and people were wanting to borrow it to use instead of the Dotco brand grinders the company has. Finally checked out a straight Dotco and took mine home now that I have a compressor that I can run it some on. I generally have had pretty decent luck with HF tools and for what you pay for them you can afford to buy a couple so that each is for a separate job or replace if they do **** out. Its not like you are going out and paying $200. for a grinder and getting junk.

Yup, I love their $7 angle grinders for stripping paint & **** off the underside of the car. Light weight makes it easy on the hands and when it pukes out I just throw it away and buy another one. It's funny but when you first fire them up they smoke for a bit, I figure they're burning off the cosmolene or whatever they're packed in to keep them from rusting up.
