I have done a lot of reading on this site and am still at a loss for how to insulate my 15x25 detached. Structure was build in the 50s with a concrete pad, two courses of block, 2x4 walls and hand made trusses 24" OC. The soffits are enclosed and there are no soffit or ridge vents. Because of the low 8' ceiling height, I would like to leave the trusses exposed even though it won't buy me room for a lift. I just think the space would feel better than drywalling the ceiling. I was thinking of an unvented roof using spray foam on the underside of the sheathing between the trusses. Does this sound like a good plan in the seattle area? How would you go about finishing the underside of the top of the trusses while leaving the bottom chord and web members exposed? Anyone have a picture of something like this? I would think cutting in Sheetrock around all the members would be a lot of work. Is this whole idea just ridiculous? Should I just do a normal ceiling with batt insulation? I'd so, what do I do about venting? Thanks for the help.

Well I would think that some sort of venting will be required. Your ideas would be a lot easier to implement to if you were building from scratch. If it were me, I'd cut in some ventilation, and do a standard insulation and a ceiling of your choice. Your Odessa und like a lot of work for little more than just an appearance or vision. But, no one said good visions were easy. Good luck.

Yes, this will work in your area. You can save some bucks by insulating the walls with conventional insulation but you could spray foam them as well.

There is plenty of info on unvented roofs on BuildingScience.com and GreenBuildingAdvisor.com
