I bought this a few years ago because I need a decent one. My cheap one from Rural King wasn't cutting it. The motor looks like it has a date of 3 56. I have read a few threads on these drill presses but was wonder if anyone could tell more about mine? Thanks for any help.
Because motors were often sold separately, it's usually difficult to pin-point a specific manufacturing year of the drill press.
Based on catalog information, yours is one of the few that are easy to date. First, 1955 was the last year for the tilting table. Then, 1957 models should be Power Bronze. So, with the date code on the motor, the table style and the color, yours is highly likely a 1956 model.
It looks to me that the engine-turned trim panel and the motor band were the only parts to be repainted. Lacquer thinner or similar can remove the paint so you can see if the original finishes are still ok. If not, there are better alternatives than paint.
The quill is down about an inch or so. The spring may need to be tightened.
The feed stop bracket has slipped down the quill. Check this post for the consequence:

What are your plans for it?
