Ok, here's the ad
http://maine.craigslist.org/tls/1535020522.html.

I get his number, call him and he knows nothing about them except he bought used 10 years ago. I ask friction or ball bearing slides, he says friction. I ask model numbers and he doesn't know. I said check the back of the boxes and he says the top is a 9100 and the bottom is a 9200?? Anyone know if these are actual model #s? If those are the model numbers are these boxes any good? I think he said they were 33 inches across the front

when you talk to someone about a toolbox who knows nothing about it, there are a couple of quick questions to as that you can make lots of assumptions from:
friction or ball bearing slides on the drawers?
width of the toolbox?
depth of the toolbox?

from this you can make great assumptions as the size and price/value ar directly related

recommendation
if it comes with tools in it, go look at it.
never know what gems are there that he does not know about

Ask him about the handles, what type are they, are they the ones with MAC written on them. If they are people seem to like those boxes and most of the older Mac boxes aside from the Economizers are good boxes but the price is high, unless they are immaculate. I saw a brand new set, top and bottom, of NOS 33" Mac boxes sell for $500 not too long ago.

Oh, and if you're a dreamer don't bother.

The models numbers sound familiar, I believe they are Economizers. I bought a set of Husky boxes years ago that were rebadged Mac Economizers (the papers that came in them had MAC's logo on them) for $1000 new, if that's what they are they're not worth $1000 used by any means.

I don't think they made a 33" Economizer, it sounds like an older Mac box.

$1000 for a old school stand up style box is huge money unless they are pristine. Half of that would be closer to value.

Thats what I was thinking but from talking to him and reading the ad I doubt he believes that.

Here's what I'm guessing they are (the bottom box came from a link through here):

He's been running the ad for a month or so. He deletes the last ad and puts up another. He had cell phone pics on one of the ads and I don't think there was any chrome or stainless on the handle pulls. Does that help ID it? Just want to say thanks for the help on this. I've been looking for a decent top to put on my small Snappie roller but I'd take a whole pkg and then sell my Snappie?? or not:bounce:
