Another Cutting Wheel Thread

Hate to start another thread on this subject, but I'm having a hard time finding much info on good 7" wheels.

I've been reclaiming quite a bit of steel, and use my 7" grinder to cut welds. It does a great job, but I'm having some trouble finding decent wheels.

I tried HF wheels. Never had one explode, they don't wear much, but they're on a tiny 5/8 arbor and the centers blow out before I ever wear them down.

I bought two Metabo Slicers from a local welding shop the other day. 7/8 arbor, 6" wheel. Centers held fine, but I only got 6 or 8 cuts out of each wheel. Not worth it at all for 4 bucks each. I was getting almost that many cuts out of the HF wheels before the centers let go.

So, what works the best? Preferably something I can run to town and get, don't really want to wait for an online order.

Been using type 1 wheels, but type 27 will work as well. 7/8 arbor. I really prefer a .045 thickness.

Sait is always a good brand. Fastenal and welding stores stock them.

Lehighvalleyabrasives.com has Sait brand 6" for about two bucks per. This one: 6" x .045" x 7/8" A60S T1 Cut-Off Wheel
Sometimes you can get a better deal on Amazon on a 50 pack of these and free shipping too.

Sait or norton work best. Metabo are flimsy and twist sideways with pressure. You can find Sait 6" on Amazon for about $1.50 a piece if you buy a 50 pack
