Has anyone used blueprint filing cabinets as tool storage? I've seen a few on Craigslist for a decent price and have considered one for my new workbench to sink in. I've never handled one, so I was wondering if they are sturdy enough to hold a complete socket set in one, a screwdriver set in another etc. etc. I was told by one person selling one he didn't think it would hold tools well. Any info? Thanks again guys.

Maexle posted his on the toolbox thread. It looks like you need to lay all the sockets flat though. tons of space.

I just added 4. I store a mix of machinist tools and "other" stuff. I couldn't be happier with them. I also stumbled into a deal on green felt (its Christmas time) and using 3-M spray adhesive and sharp scissors, lined them. Second choice would have been cork.

Most of the used ones sell for between $4-600 it seems, but once in awhile I'll see one pop up for around $200. That may be the way I go, now that I know they'll hold tools, that was what turned me off of them originally, and I let a nice one go that was only $100 because of what another guy said who wanted $800 for his. Dang it.

That shouldn't be a problem I have plenty of open area where my bench will be. Now to wait for another good deal to come up.

I had an old one from the 50s or 60s. Built like a tank! Even had ball bearing slides!
