another epoxy-coat floor prep thread..

I know there are a ton of these but I just can't seem to find quite what I'm looking for.

I'm closing on a used house next month, about 7 years old, 3 car garage floor is dirty but good condition, no stains or surface issues.

I can rent this floor grinder locally

I don't know what brand it is.

my question is, what is the prep order with a grinder? Do I wash and then degrease then grind? Then after the grind how do I prep? Wash and dry or is there a better way to get rid of the dust? Or do I just grind straight away until the surface is rough then roll out the epoxy coat?

what are you guys doing around the steps up to the house, just mask and paint around or remove them and replace when dry? I haven't looked to see if there's an easy way to remove them, probably isn't.

See if they have a buffer with a diamabrush head for rent. It's lighter, easier to use and nearly impossible to gouge the floor. Unless you are trying to remove a thick coating they prove excellent.

If you don't have a means to mitigate the dust (vac system) you will need to apply water to keep the dust down. Silica dust is a killer.

I'll be renting an EDCO 2ec from my local taylor rental. The unit is $50 a day + you have to pay for the dymasert blades @ $85/set/day + 8% damage waiver plus tax. Keep in mind the amperage these machines may need. Luckily my laundry room is off the garage with a 20A outlet for the dryer.

It doesnt come with the vac system so use a good mask too.

I picked up a 4" harbor freight diamond cup wheel for my had held grinder for $24 w/ 20% coupon for the edges and areas the edco wont be able to get to.

I guess so.e of the confusion comes from reading so many threads with different terms for the grinding/ sanding stuff.
Check on the Vac, I have one if there's a place to connect and ill wear a respirator.

So what about the pre and post grind prep? Sweep, grind, and go?

side question, what's the shelf life on the legacy industrial stuff? I saw a thread that said the epoxy coat is just 3 weeks. I'm thinking about switching brands.
