Actually found this place a few years ago while still living in New Hampshire hence the NH in my name. Also been a member of the HAMB for quite awhile as well as other car guy forums for many years so I'm keeping this name since alot of guys may recognise it. Took an early retirement & the wife & I recently moved to the Tri-cities area of TN. Better weather, nice folks, cars don'r turn to rust as fast & property taxes are much more friendly. Gave up a 3 bay carriage house & large storage barn at my old place in NH to make this move & got nothing but a rinky dink 2 car carport at the moment. The plan is to do a 30x40 or so retro gas station type shop here once my place in NH sells. Looking at tons of pics on here as well as vintage gas station pics and have pretty much settled on 2 bays side by side with an office (man cave) on the far end. Will need to be high enough to put in a 2 post lift since I plan on wasting away my retirement years building stuff for fun rather than for a living like the past 40 years. So thinking I need a minimum of a 12' ceiling height but probably go with 14' to allow a partial second floor. Any tips, pics, etc would be a huge help. Not at all familiar with the climate here so not sure about heating & A/C, insulation, etc. and money as always, is an issue. Stick built, metal building, etc ? Looking forward to hanging out here.

welcome to the forum. I love your idea, and am looking forward to the finished product. Best of luck, and if you need extra hands give me a shout. I work with all things electrical, and don't mind helping a DIY'r.

OK here I am 10 months later and my house in NH finally sold. I took a beating on the price but at least the $4500 a year tax bill for an empty house is gone. Time to start getting serious about my garage. Any advice from people local to East Tennessee, tri cities area would be a huge help. Who to call for concrete work, who might be a reputable builder, etc. Also anyone who might have a floor plan for a 30x40 garage who would be willing to share them. What I see in my head is 2 bays side by side on the 40' side and a man cave/office area on the end. Something like this one.. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=106028 Thanks !
