Well it's been a long time coming and it's finally underway. After months of planning, and several changes later. I'm building a conventional style detached 36' x 44' x 16' garage/shop. The garage is going to have 16' walls, an 18' x 14' door, two man doors and two 12' x 44' x 12' carports/lean to's.

Excavation started yesterday. Here are pictures of day one and day two. Now we wait for the weather to cooperate. UUG...

I'm in Kuwait now originally from NH. I sure miss the mountains and the snow!!! I plan on building a similiar garage when I get back. Thinking a 40X45X14 with a 20X45 car port off to the side for my fifth wheel. Thinking of using wood with 62' scissor trusses to cover garage and carport. Looks like its going to be a nice build!!! Look forward to update pics!

Well after several very COLD days of weather it's finally warmed up and time to move on.
Today, the forms were stripped off, the 1/2 bath was roughed in, 10 2'x2' footing pads were poured for the two carports. The plan is to finish the back filling and compacting by the end of today.

The floor should be ready to pour by Saturday.

Footings being excavated below frost

God was good to Utah - was a view, priceless...

Here's one Right-Coaster that's very jealous!

Good luck with the build, great another thread to subscribe too!

We got a lot done last week. The floor was compacted and leveled out with about 6 inches of 3/4 gravel. This morning at 0730 about ten guys showed up followed by a pump and concrete trucks. When I left for work at 1600 they were still working the power trowel. The wife just said they were still there and it's 2200 hrs.

Pics coming:drool:

Floor is 4500 psi and was burned in smooth with a power trowel for several hours. They all worked their cans off, they started at 0730 and ended at 2300. I had them cut in the stress lines with a saw.

Nice project and beautiful location. I love Utah - do hiking there occassionally. My problem would be I'd be standing there enjoying the view out the door and not get anyting done in the shop :bounce:

Keep the updates and pics coming.

Thanks to all of you for nice compliments. I'm very pleased with quality of work preformed by the foundation contractor. Real professionals that care about their work can really make or break a project of this scope.

I don't have the expertise to pick it up from here, so I'm still mulling over the framing bids.

I'm also making some minor changes as I go, such as; rough plumbing and attic trusses with a gable end entrance for access. Even the little changes seem to slow the process.

With a little hustle you should be ready to move in some time next year.

So very very true, and for the record, I'm ready for spring already. It's been snowing every day this past week. I pushed the truss delivery forward to monday and with any luck the weather will cooperate. Gotta love Utah

From the pic I see looks like stud spacing 12"oc? Maybe its my eyes.lol

Good eyes, they're 12" oc. It's taken a few 2x6x16 boards to frame this in. I'm pretty happy with how the carport has turned out. The second one is going up today.
