I'm looking to install a modine hot dawg heater in my shop/garage. I've seen a few different calculators and have read through tons of stuff and am still not set on a size.

space is 25x25 8ft ceilings. R19 in ceiling and dry walled.
Walls are bare block walls. Hoping to insulate in the future.
2 insulated garage doors not very thick though and 1 man door.
also there are 4 windows and its detached from the house.

I am located in Philadelphia. So its not to cold here. I am leaning towards the HD45 at the moment. I can score a deal on an HD30 right now but fear it may be to small. In the colder months January and February ill probably leave it on at 45 or so the rest of the the time it will off until needed. Id like it to be comfortable in about 30 min or so.

Either one should be fine. If you have a Menards in your area don't be afraid to look at a Beacon Morris or Sterling heater..pretty much the same thing and myself and others here have had good luck with them. Take your time and make sure it's installed to code and look into a combustible air inlet box,it's not required depending on what you'll be doing but wanted you to know that's an option. Guess you'll be going vertical since you have block walls so choose you heater location accordingly to plan for your vent. I'm no pro I have made lot;s of mistakes and learned from them. Good luck to you and please post some pics of your install.

I have an HD 45 in my shop. I'm way up in Northern NY. Very cold here and it works great. My shop is 20 by 25. The unit has been in 11 Years.

The one advantage to the Beacon Morris units is they are a sealed, forced combustion and are set up so you can pull the combustion air from outside. When I was shopping around I think the price was pretty close on the 75000 BTU units between Beacon Morris and Hot Dawg.

Yup..dfiler is correct, unless unit is sealed, combustible air inlet box really not doing what it's supposed to.

I am leaning toward the beacon unit at the moment. Its significantly cheaper then the modine unit and it can either outside air or not out of the box. It also comes with the LP kit which I may do as a temp setup to get it running. Anybody have any issues with the beacon units? Are parts available off the shelf for it if need be?

Most parts available online at Menards and other places I'm sure. Before you take the heater home from the store or if they have a display model check to see which adapter to use with your heater if you're venting with cat 111 stainless. I brought 4 home and had to take the rest back...no big deal really but would have been easier to do at the store but didn't think of it.
