I think I have researched all the posts regarding the above jack, and I am pondering my next move. I have the jack apart with the exception of the tank nut and I believe I have read all the procedures for removal but to no avail. The nut is the type with radial holes around the perimeter of the nut. Best I can do is a pipe wrench. I think I did read someplace that there may not be a need to remove this nut that the seal and piston can be removed without doing so. Before I get too brutal with the tank nut, is it really necessary to remove it?

I am the original owner of the jack, and started to just give it away but decided it had too much history. I purchased a seal kit from Lazzar's so now I have some financial skin in the game. Checked with several local shops here and they just are not interested in repair of small jacks.

I admire the quality of Hein Werner but I am a little grumpy that they design in such a way to discourage DIY, but I get it.

No, you'll regret using a pipe wrench, get a pin wrench. I used a small c clamp to hold the pin on mine engaged, while using a cheater pipe to generate enough torque on my O'Boy. Just my opinion, but I know I'd be angry at myself if I chewed it up with a pipe wrench. My pin wrench came from McMaster, but I think they are readily available.

You can remove the ram without removing the tank nut, by removing the packing nut, packing and washer. But if the reservoir is filled with sludge or pieces of the previous ram seal, you'll need to remove the tank nut to flush the reservoir.
