These LED ribbons are kind of fun to play with. I needed a new over-vanity light for my bathroom remodel. I’m going for an Arts & Crafts style. This will be mounted over the quarter sawn oak in-wall medicine cabinet I built. Uses 15-feet of 4000K LED strip and 100W 24 volt power supply. The ribbon faces both up and down.

Looks great! My only concern would be if it’s bright enough.

I made a test rig out of plywood and c clamps, clamped it to the molding over a window to get it close to the needed height and powered it up. It was too bright. That test rig didn’t have slots…it was all the light the ribbon put out shining up and down. I’m sure the slots will tone it down some.

If there’s a problem, the fixture is easily disassembled for tweaks. The end caps pop off, the supports are bolted to inserts with square headed bolts, and the square pegs on the front pop out so the wood screws underneath can be removed. Making it so it could easily come apart for led replacement (if needed) was one of the design priorities.

I love the LED tape, it's so nice to have soft lighting coming from below than above. I'm building a new house and shop, every cupboard and drawer and shelf will have automatic LED tape.

Have you given any thought to where you are going to put the transformers?

I'm thinking about attaching mine to the underside of the vanity near the wall...but I'm not in love with that spot (due to the proximity of plumbing). Wondering what others may have come up with. It needs to be somewhat accessible. Also needs to be able to radiate waste heat.

You could have used those programmable LED strips that have multi colored chase and strobe features.

Been there done that. I plasma cut this sign out of steel several years ago, hung it on standoffs in my garage above the door into the house. It's been running on continuous loop ever-since. It runs off a 5V wall wart/USB outlet. I have it set where it comes on in one color, slowly dims, switches to the next color, slowly brightens, holds, slowly dims, then switches to the next color....repeat. There might be 6 or 7 different shades it does.

I've gotten a lot of compliments on it over the years. The LED strip had adhesive backing that pulled off and I just adhered it to the back of the steel around the circumference facing the wall...so it backlights the tree. It's about 40-inches in diameter.
