Frame is 2 inches deep, need to attach 1/2 or 3/4 wood panel to the inside Panel size is 2 1/2 feet by 1 1/2 feet. not supporting anything just for looks. Also the panel will be vertical in the frame.

My idea is to weld tabs, a few per side, to the set depth i want then put something like this:

or maybe the ones that have barbs and you epoxy it into the hole?

Make a jig or clamp a piece of the wood panel to get the correct depth and just weld tabs to set the correct depth. Then just though bolt the panels or mount a stud from the backside if you don't want the bolts to show.

That works too. A sketch of what you want to do would help...your description leaves room for interpretation of what you actually need...

Tabs with a hole welded at the correct depth. Wood screws though the hole to hold it.

Put the tee nuts in the wood... drill hole thru tubing and add screw?
this way the tee nut is replaceable... if you just wood screw it. you gotta be careful
if you ever strip it. Also I do like the rivnuts too. but not easily replaced if stripped.
2cents...
