Another impact socket recemendation thread

OK, so I now there hundreds of other threads like this on here, but what the heck, I figured I'd make another one. Anyway, I recently got a nice Matco impact wrench (1/2 drive) witch replaced my cheap CH one I had before, The CH came with a set of SAE deeps but I'd like a nice set of MM first than SAE mostly for lug nuts and other things. I never used my old one, So this opens up a hole new world of opportunity. Back to the point, I need a good set, preferably deep and a good brand maybe even USA if possible, No harbor freight and I'm open to used, The only real issue is I'm looking for a CHEAP set, I mean $50 to $100 for both hopefully closer to $50. What brands do you guys use? Anyone selling a good set for Cheap? Thanks!

The only real issue is I'm looking for a CHEAP set, I mean $50 to $100 for both hopefully closer to $50.

Harbor Freight is the only place where you can find both SAE and metric for around $50 total. The Pittsburgh Pro sets are very strong, they are one of HF's gems.

Sunex, grey pneumatic or Tekton would be your best budget in my opinion.

I have personally owned grey and sunex and was happy with both. The 1/2" sets would be high on budget. Tekton 1/2" sets are around 35-40$ for deeps

I picked up a set of matco deeps new on ebay for $75. It's worth it to go over that budget for a complete set. You'll spend more on the extra sizes than a cheap set costs.

I use grey pneumatic almost exclusively for all my impact stuff and I have been highly impressed with the quality for the price. And their sets are complete with no missing sizes.

Why no harbor freight? I personally use sunex and have 3 or their master sets and they are great and I dont think I would buy anything else. But just about anything besides hf is going to be out of the $50 range.
The Pittsburgh pros are great and I doubt you will ever break one, and if you do buy that size from proto, snap on, williams, sunex, gp, etc. Thats what I would be doing if I did not get such a great deal on the sunex stuff through their rebates.

I really like my Genius impacts.

I also have some evercraft from about 4 years ago that has held up well, COO is Taiwan (I'm thinking they may **** now, possibly made in India?)

I also like my SK, and my USA Crafsman have been good.

I also have a mix of Williams USA, Proto, in the larger sizes that are very nice as well.

But again really like the Genius and will probably replace the SK when they finally wear out with more Genius.

I can recommend the Tekton impact sockets. I have used and abused my set and the laser etched numbers are still very clearly seen.

If you want ultimate safety you buy good name brand impact sockets. They are soft and eventually wear out. Plenty of impact sockets today, (Taiwan) are harder and don't wear out as fast, and they crack just the same way as decent chrome sockets do. Seems to me there must be some sacrifice in safety right there.

Sunex or grey pneumatic both are Taiwan made and hold up well and make Matco adv and Cornwell blue power lines I want to say grey pneumatic makes them

Nos kobalt from cripe had Usa made by snap on 3/8 impacts very cheap not to long ago too the older kobalt USA impact was snap on made I believe

I have the Duralast/Great Neck branded ones not sure exactly who makes them from Autozone... it's very decent size for import cars.... up to 19mms and the set is from sears. But use mostly the Duralast/Great Neck brand sets . while the Craftman set skips few sizes that VW seems to want to use...a lot of especially the 13mm 16mm 18mm.

Never liked the HF one they seems to be thicker (not necessary better) and chunkier to fit in some spaces when I looked at it in the store. The ones you get from Walmart is the worse.... freaking socket split open on me on first use while it look and feel just like a normal impact socket.

That Sunex rebate deal they had going was pretty darn nice. I got a $100 rebate on a $143 metric set (43 piece) SUU2569 from the Tool Warehouse. If you can wait awhile, Sunex typically has that rebate every year.

Just bought S&K deep and shallow SAE sets and am really happy with them, willing to pay a little more for them being USA made but weren't crazy expensive. 250 for 3/8-1 1/4

ladams17... that is not "a little bit" more. That said I love my SK 1/2" impacts (deep, regular, swivel).

I have had great luck with grey pneumatic . Bought them when I was working as a heavy equip mechanic. My matco guy talked me out of the full matco set and into them. Lifetime warranty and if I have an issue where I keep breaking them, he will refund that one socket and apply it towards the matco. Never have broken one.

I have oddball impacts from snap-on, wright tool, gray canada and other overseas brands. I find the us or Canada made ones feel of higher quality. Broach depth is something to consider if you are using them on lug nuts. My snap on have a very shallow broach and won't fully seat on long lugs.
