has anyone here used led lights in this kind of casing http://www.ivineng.com/index.php?_m=mod_product&_a=view&p_id=454
I was planning to do something similar today, but the 4' flourecent were better in every way, including lumens per watt. I just bought a box of 2850 lumen, 6500k, 38 watt for $3.50 each at HD. Will post pics tonight sometime, check them out.
That is 75 lumens per watt. (which is even low for fluorescent) 90% of LEDs are running between 95 and 125 lumens per watt. Also, 2850 lumens out of a LED will produce more light than 2850 lumens out of a fluorescent. Simply due to the fact that the light coming out of the top 180 degrees of the fluorescent has to somehow be reflected back down. And you will never get all of it. Just for easy figuring, say 25% of the total light output from the fluorescent never makes it to the ground. That takes the 2850 lumens down to 2137 lumens. Now you have gotten down to 56 lumens per watt of useable light.

G-ManBart - I'm considering those high bay lights for my new garage, and have read numerous reviews stating that bugs get into the fixture through the cooling holes. Have you experienced that? It would be a big problem for me, because the lights would only be accessible from a lift.
Thanks, Cory
Hey Cory,
I haven't had a real problem with bugs in the lights. I have 7 total and I think one of them has one big horsefly in it that I know of...other than that, I haven' noticed any bugs. I haven't really thought to look, but I will try to check them tomorrow.
