Another MaxJax question...concrete

Drilled a couple of holes and got 3.5 and 4 inches in various places...anyone else in this range use epoxy and live to tell?

I will be lifting a 911 (2400lbs), C63 (3800lbs), Land rovers of various weights...(5500lbs) and (4800lbs)

Not sure if folks that were between those thicknesses have used the anchors and epoxy and been fine....

Thoughts?

You can get the anchors to stick with epoxy, but I don't think you'll get anyone to encourage you to use concrete that is less than the minimum. Especially if you are going to max out the capacity of the lift.

why not cut out the sections of concrete under the lift pilings and have them repoured to the proper thickness with proper kpsi concrete.....problem solved. NEVER compromise when safety is involved.

I was in the same situation as you. Floor was between 3" and 4" thick (in some places, 2"). I also thought about epoxying but in the end, decided it just wasn't worth the risk. I would have never have been truly comfortable getting under the car.

I had 24"x24" sections cut and repoured to a depth of 12"

When I got ready to buy and install my MaxJax, I drilled a few holes and found that the garage floor slab which was supposed to a minimum of 4" thick was about 2" where I drilled. I also had a couple of cracks that were within 5" of where the anchors were going to be placed.

Rather than risk anything, I had a contractor come out and cut out two 4'x4' sections of the floor and re-pour new pads that were 12" thick. I also spec'd a 5000 psi mix. The new pads have rebar for additional strength and also connects them to the existing floor. Fortunately where the sections of the floor were cut out, the original slab thickness was 4".

I wound up using 8" epoxy anchors rather than the supplied 4" wedge anchors.

Can you do it? Yes.

Is it safe? It is until it fails on you.

is it worth the risk? Not to me. Cutting out 24" square holes and a small narrow trench between to let you sink in some mounts with a bit of cross bracing is a cheap price for your safety and sanity.

Besides, doing that sounds like fun to me. :) You get to use TOOLS!
