I don't go to HF a lot, but when I do I give the store a pretty good once over. In the plumbing area I noticed a new name on the aluminum pipe wrenches, USA STD cast into the handle. The tag on the end said Pittsburg, maid in China.

If the maid is in China, probably not a good time to be futzing around with the pipe wrench. Who's gonna clean up the mess?

I had a nice Rigid aluminum pipe wrench for a few years until it disappeared :dunno:

I'm not a plumber,
but I liked it so much I tracked down what I thought were the best looking Chinesium equivalents:

Brasscraft 18 Inch Pipe Wrench T391
https://www.brasscraft.com/product/pst391/

Brasscraft 18 Inch Pipe Wrench T391
https://www.brasscraft.com/product/pst390/

They looked really good, felt and worked similarly to the Rigid,
but both the handles snapped off when I put cheater pipes on them.

The aluminum Rigid didn't mind the cheater at all,
but the Chinese aluminum wrenches would snap instead of flexing.

Maybe these are better, but I'd be careful if you cheat the handle :wtf:

Did they have any that were made in China? Or was the maid visiting China on vacation?

So, HF imported a Maid with an STD into the USA ? :wtf:
That's just wrong on sooooo many levels.

They mean that 24 inches long is a USA standard.
That's the justification. The REASON is to get USA on the tool and hope the customer doesn't take a closer look. Will the ad campaign say "better than Ridgid" ? LOL!!

LOL there was a thread about this two or three years back, but the thread started with complain about USA displayed on the handle when it is made in China. Some COO discussion here 2 or 3 years back.... Dam these COO trolling threads seem to come back every other month with a different topping.

I'll try to see if my search is good and find that thread again.

Funny I try to google if this is a brand "USA STD' LOL...........

..........
Hmmm seems the search function here limits to past 1 year only.... anyone knows how to search this.... I remember it had a USA,Japan discussion as well.

This thread....dated back 2015

If my maid went to China with a 24" wrench I would not expect her to return to a harbor freight any time soon.
