Been a long time lurker on the site and posted only a handful of times, but gathered a wealth of knowledge from everyone here. I originally wanted to epoxy the floor myself, but wasn't sure if my wife and I could time all of the steps just right.

So I ended up using a local pro that was recommended by Epoxy-Coat, Texas Tough Tops, which they exclusively use Epoxy-Coat products. I choose the beige base coat, beige blend chips, heavy distribution, and clear top coat with UV additive. My garage faces the setting west sun so I wanted the UV Additive to protect the epoxy from yellowing for as long as possible. Seth did a excellent job and my new floor looks fantastic! He said my floor was rather difficult due to the concrete being so soft.

My house was built in April 2011. The floor would constantly expel a fine white dust and was showing signs of eroding away. Most likely the cause is from rain when the slab was poured causing the top cream layer to not set correctly.

Not sure yet. I wish I had 20' ceilings to make room for the 2 post lift. lol I have some old time signs I'd like to put up and maybe some 16"x20" poster pictures of my vehicles. I wanted to keep a simple look. So still trying to play with some ideas in my head.

Thanks guys!

It was $3.75/sq ft. My garage was about 550 sq ft.

Love it!!! The more I see the beige the more I like it.

I did my own about 3 months ago with epoxy coat. Doing it myself I was able to do my 700sq ft garage for $1.25/sf.

I would have liked to try this on my own, but along side someone with experience. The money saved would have been nice but I would have been worried about running into problems.

Thanks everyone for the compliments!

It took 2 days for application and 3 Days to cure. But I didn't put anything on or walked on the floor for 6 days just to be sure of no peeling.

Day 1 morning was diamond grind and acid etching.
Day 1 6pm put down base coat and chips
Day 2 11am put down top coat

I agree, looks awesome.

Since the company included the diamond grinding, the total price is well worth it.

How much (if any) oil and other type contaminates were soaked into you concrete before the application ?

Did they put down a concrete "sealer" before the base coat ?

What's the warranty, and what does and does not include ?

I only had a couple spots with oil drips and 2 stroke gas drips. So my floor was in pretty good shape and the house is only 2 years old. If it were in worse shape they would have had to do more degreasing.

No sealer was put down. Just the epoxy base coat. My foundation already has a moisture barrier built in the slab.

Warranty was 10 years against defects.

Hmmm... Why diamond grind AND acid etch? They through chips on the base coat or a tack coat?

Seth said the diamond grinding preps the surface and the acid washing opens up the pores in the concrete to allow the epoxy to bond better.

Only a thick base coat was applied, then the chips were thrown down before an epoxy clear top coat was put down.

In most cases, it's not necessary to grind and acid etch. "Thick" is subjective, but about 3 mils will sink into the concrete. Then, another 3 mil tack coat should be applied on top of the base coat. Now I see why it was only $3.75/sqft.

Epoxy-coat goes on at like 6-10 mils thick in a single coat.

Am I the only one who sees a distinct line with different coloration? What is that about? Also, I notice a lot of little micro bubbles in the close up pic. This may be due to not priming. I'm with cruzin90, acid etching after grinding is completely unnecessary. Good luck with your floor. Let us know how it holds up.

The different color line along the edge is just from my wonderful photography job. Its really the same base coat color just without flakes. Not sure why it looks like a different color. In person it looks like the same as the floor. And the bubbles you see in the closeup pic is just the flakes sticking up ever so slightly above the clear coat.

I also install epoxy floors. I like the scattered blend of large and small chips better than the solid full broadcast to rejection with large chips alone. It is always smarter to allow a real professional to do it. If it fails guess who takes care of the warranty when you DIY.
This floor will last a life-time, if properly cared for. If you sell the house will add value and make it easier to sell. Epoxycoat has a great warranty too!

Seth - the floor looks great. The chip colors/sizes, are they the same as the "Beige Blend" that can be purchased from Epoxy-Coat or did you blend them? I am considering the beige with the beige blend of chips for my floor.
