Another New Garage

New here and thought I would post some pics of my project. Like I have said before, wish I had found this site a few months ago. Just another relatively plain shell, but I designed it myself and have built it with just a little help over the last 2 months.

It is a 20 x 28. 9 foot walls and has an 8 x 16 overhead door. I had the trusses designed with a 12 foot wide room built in. It has a 12/12 pitch and a one foot overhang all the way around. All the trim is cedar and it also has a 10 x 16 ramp(should be 20, but will pour the rest later). The only items I contracted out were the concrete, and the shingles. FYI...without electric I have about $10.6K in it total.

Framing the first full weekend of build. Like my LVL's? If you look closely you can see the ladder system I built so I could raise them myself. I had to do it one at a time, then nail them once I got them up there

End of the 1st weekend....Ready for trusses.

My dad and I putting up the trusses, a two day task. They look huge but only about 150 lbs each. We put a row of decking down and one of us stood up top while the other raised the truss.

Helpful hint: On the pusher, in the V at the end, put something that keeps the truss upright if it leans too far over. We learned that the hard way. BTW... buying the truss spacers was $200 well spent as they place the truss 24" oc automatically, no measuring, no spacing. From one end to the other I was off by 1/8", an acceptable margin for error.

In the 5th pic, once the distance got too short to raise the trusses inside, we came up with the slide to push them over the end. It was slick too...

Here is where we stand as of today. Getting close to finishing the trim. I have a door to nowhere and the boat is in. I have about 2 feet on either end and room for a car beside it and a workbench in the back. I can almost get the tower up except for the tow eye. Sheetrock won't help that.

Will build an exterior staircase. The building was originally going to be 32 feet long with stairs inside. Anything over 600 square feet requires a variance and I didn't want to deal with the month delay to do that (I even go to church with the zoning board chair and one of the people that approves permits and couldn't get them to budge) so I opted for the outside stairs

My 16 year old daughter's sole contribution to the project, putting her foot down to brace the pusher, oh she helped me hold up one panel of the OH door as the wind was blowing the day I put that together

The loft was a nice bonus, a consequence of matching the roof pitch of the house. The space above the attached garage is open too, but the joists were never meant to support any weight, so that got me thinking to build it into the trusses in this one. Windows on both ends for some natural light and now it can be whatever we want (probably mostly storage for now )

Nice looking garage! Those attic trusses are the way to go, they don't cost that much more and you gain a lot of useful space. I used them on my garage as well.
