another new guy with a need for info

Hello room,
I am new here and thought I could get a question answered quickly here since I cant seem to get in answered anywhere else.
I have a 1995 chevy z71 c/k1500 6 luged wheels & I want to haul a ton of lumber about 25 miles . Any ideas wether I am nuts or not? Truck seems healthy enough . Thanks for any replies I may get

As long as the truck is in good shape, ie. tires, shocks, springs, brakes, I'd think you'd be ok. In my old 2000 F150 I've hauled 2200lbs of stone and approx 3000 lbs of topsoil (this I don't recommend). The topsoil was about 10 miles. Watch your springs as you load, make sure you still have an inch or more of suspension travel.

How do you plan on carrying the lumber? If on a rack, make sure it's rated for the load and installed properly. I know, the real question here is whether a half ton truck will carry 1 ton. It will, but not very happy. I'd avoid hills and curvy roads.

I'd get a trailer or do 2 trips. But, that's just me.

Thanks guys, I am going to give it a shot, the lumber is on a pallet that will sit in bed. Zeke, love the pic, Doonesbury is only strip I ever read and have for more years than I can remember.

Please to report the ton of wood hauled in my '95 z71 was a piece of cake. She handled it w/o even grunting, and safely could have handled several hundred pounds more with ease. Had at least 5-6 inches of travel left after loaded. Only threat was the load was about 5 & 1/2 ft high on a 4x4 pallet, so curves and hills were a little scary, even tho load was strapped down there was some top heavy sway going on. We took it slow & easy , it was all good. Thanks for the input.

Glad to hear all went well. I was never worried about hauling a ton in my old ford. I now have a 2008 2500HD, that I've hauled as much as 5400lbs in the bed. That was by accident, miscalculated the weight of each landscape stone. Thought they were about 10-15 only to later learn they were 27lbs each. Good luck on your project.
