Hello GJ!

New member here from the DFW area in Texas. I am an avid gear head with an emphasis on the Ford Mustang. My corral consists of a 1965 Mustang Coupe, a 2001 Mustang Cobra and a 2016 Mustang GT. The '65 was my first car that my dad and I attempted to restore in high school that needs to be re-restored properly. The Cobra was a daily driver is now turning into a drag car. The GT is my daily that I have recently learned how to autocross and drive on a road course that I am desperately trying to keep as a daily and not go overboard with modifications.

I love working on my cars. I started out with no garage working on my driveway with hand tools. Then worked my way up to my apartment's 1-car garage and experienced the beauty of electric power tools. I'm currently renting a house with a 2-car garage and am blown away by the usefulness of an air compressor. I am now on contract for my FIRST home to be built with an oversized 3-car garage that will finally allow me to stop working on my back and utilize a 4-post and/or 2-post lift!

Should you guys accept the task, I would love to lean on y'all for help on all things related to setting up a garage. I will be spending the next several months planning.... I need help/ideas/recommendations on flooring, cabinets, lifts, lighting, insulating, heating/cooling and organizing by being efficient with every square inch of the garage. I don't want to store things on the floor anymore, lol.

Anyways, that's my intro and I look forward to being part of this community!

Welcome; My first car was a 68 mustang and mustangs have been my favorite cars since then. Sounds like your inline for a nice house and plenty of garage space. Good for you.

Welcome from Mo City! Congrats on the house!

First thing I can think of is lighting. Get that garage lighting set up exactly the way you want it. You said you're on contract, so you're getting it built right? Talk with the builder about putting in a sweet setup but make sure to do some homework to make sure their pricing isn't a gouge!

Very cool! I've heard so many people tell me stories about their first car or a muscle car they used to have and have since, regretfully, gotten rid of it... I'm trying real hard to hold on to mine! My grandparents bought a brand new 1966 Mustang and their 5 kids grew up loving Mustangs... it runs in my family :beer:

I agree. I'm trying to do as much planning up front, right now, to take advantage of the new build. I'm using SketchUp to model my garage to get an idea of what will go where... and plan for the future for things like maybe a mill? or lathe? Should I go ahead and add some 220 outlets? If so, where? etc...

Welcome from an East Texas Mustang man! My first car was a 1969 Shelby Mustang! Have had over 60 in the few short years since then (1974) and currently only have 16.

Oh my gosh! haha, quite impressive! Your first car was a Shelby! And you've had that many cars? Man, I need to share this with my wife to let her know that I DONT have too many cars!! Can I use you as an example/reference for wanting/needing more cars?

Builder says to use 10' garage door on RH bay instead of double-bay door
I moved the door to the backyard to the back wall and added patio for cutting/welding... in case I go with epoxy floor
Nothing is firm yet...

I use SketchUp alot for things like this. But, I also think there is value in taping the outline on the floor to get a "feel" for the layout. Sometimes it looks like you got plenty of room on SketchUp, but then you're cramped once it's all in place. Just my 2 cents.

In my opinion, having a 220 outlet (or maybe more) doesn't hurt to have. However, you have to consider how far the 220 outlets are from the breaker. Farther away from breaker = more 220 cable = more money. But, it's all up to you and what you think you will need.

For me, my garage is smaller and it made the most sense to put the 220V outlet very close to the breaker.

Very good to know, I hadn't thought about that. I'm not even sure where the breaker will be. Might have to wait a little bit before nailing down those details. Thanks!

Sorry I confused you with the other new guy that works on V-22.
A BOI is a Break of Inspection , which is piles of paperwork to be filled out to remove any component that has already been installed and inspected and sold to QC.
A shop joke, as it were.
Beautiful car!
I hade a 68 GT Fastback and 2 67 coupes.

You can look at my garage thread to see some of my "inventory". I don't have any pics since I got the 96 Cobra or the 04 Mach or the 69 Cougar Eliminator so you decide if they will impress her. I only get away with it because she raids the car fund occasionally for a new kitchen or a killer vacation.
