Hoping you folks will be able to help me out on here. Working with a VERY limited budget to build on 5 acres I purchased up by Brainerd. I am actually looking at building a small home, not a garage, but everytime I search for info. it brings me to this board! I am living well with Stage 4 Breast Cancer, I am a she and not a he, LOL. Hoping to have something up there by next fall as my son will be going to school in Brainerd to be a Conservation Officer. I am a retired Mechanical drafter so am pretty competent when it comes to DIY

Welcome from Plymouth. We are in the midst of a wild and crazy construction boom. It is almost impossible to hire a crew or a contractor to do good work at reasonable prices. A good friend has had a contractor string him along for 2 to 3 years on a good size barn/shop build north of Brainerd. Most of the materials are already on site and paid for. With your hoped for timeline, you might consider a manufactured home from a company in MN or WI. IMO, the "up north work ethic" is completely different from what we expect in the metro area. A lot of the workers set a higher priority on deer season than earning a paycheck. Not ALL, but I sure have been frustrated by that attitude.
