Hey all, recently I snapped my bench vise in half and have been looking for a different one. I can't afford much, so I have been watching CL and other places.

anyway, I noticed this wilton one, and really just wanted to know if it was one I should stay away from, or if it is one of their better ones? From my research lately, this is the place to ask. :) Their vises are all over the map from what I can tell, so I would hate to over pay for a crappy one.

One of the pics is a screen capture and a resize, so the quality is not the best, but that is all I have.

looks to be a Wilton tradesman, great vice and a 4" would run somewhere in the $500 range for new.

Thanks for the help, it is a little bigger than a 4" from what the ad says. And I honestly don't want to say any more than that about it. :) I do appreciate the replies though.

That is the exact wilton you want to look for. Really any wilton built in that style is good, as far as I know those have never been imported.

Ok, just an update since I said I would. It was at a local online auction. The vise was attached to a large home made bench, and it ended up going for $280 plus fees, so about $325 out the door. Too rich for my blood, might have been worth it had I had a use for the bench.

the one at the auction looked nice, but right now I just couldn't put that much towards a vise. Plus it was an hour and a half away, I would need to pull a trailer with my truck to haul the bench/vise, and I have to drive another 400 miles tomorrow to pick up another auction "win" So between gas prices and travel and the cost of the vise/bench, it was just not a feasible thing for me. Bad timing more than anything right now.

I am looking at another vise that is not as nice, but it is closer and most likely a little cheaper.

With some patience you will find a good deal. I recently scored a very similar 8" Wilton that had nothing more than shelf wear for $175 off of Craigslist. Granted, deals like that one are far and few between..but there are deals out there!

Wow!... I didn't know they were that expensive! I have two of them with 5-1/2" jaws - one in the garage and the other in my basement. They were salvaged from the trash at work. They were thrown out because they got bent from abuse. Some filing brought them back in alignment.

Ok, an update and a few more questions.

First, I ended up a vise at a local auction, didn't get the best deal ($55) but it is a vise and I needed one. :) It is an older, made in USA ridgid 4 1/2" one. Good shape but needs new jaws/teeth.

so first question is where can I get new teeth? for the jaws of this vise?

next, are the allied vises any good? There is a big one at another auction and I was just wondering how good they were? Thanks,
