Another Pole Barn Thread

Hello Y'all!

After a lot of lurking and reading it's time to contribute.

I have just staked out the lot for my new barn. It is going to be 24W x 48L x 12'H with a 12 x 48 lean-to and a 6 x 48 porch.

4x6 posts at 8'OC unless you guys convince me to spend extra money on 6x6 posts.

Well, my "city" doesn't allow for accessory buildings bigger than 600 sq. ft.
I found that out when I went to get a building permit. So, I had to petition the Board of Adjustments to let me build my shop on my land. I had to put two ads in a paper, pay them to notify all the board members and go to a hearing.
Seven weeks later and in the middle of Oklahoma summer, I'm finally ready to build.
Not much done so far - put a culvert in for the driveway, graded the pad and started drilling the post holes (13 done, 5 more to go).

I've only used Wick's online tool for the rendering.
I'm building it from scratch. Mostly myself.

I'm hopping for a barn raising weekend with my buddies, but with the schedule moved almost eight weeks it may be hard to convince the crew to come over and sweat for a full day.

Got all the holes drilled.
Picking up first load of lumber tonight and second on Friday.

Also used this poster to invite my riding buddies for a barn raising.
It's 95F and humid today, I sure hope it wont be this bad in 2 weeks.

The barn raising was a success!
We had good weather on Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. Sunday rained all day, but we got the goal achieved by Saturday night.
The main structure is up and the trusses are set.

When I saw the part about your city, I was thinking you might be in a bunch of homes!! After seeing how much space you have I can't believe they would have a 600ft building code. Time to get the voters together and fix that problem.

Looking good. Nice of your buddies to come help, must have been the poster, which I like.

What are your plans when you get it done?

I will split the main building into two areas:
16 x 24 wood shop and a 32 x 24 ManCave, moto workshop etc.
The larger part will be climate controlled. I will keep my motorcycles and gear there.
The bigger lean-to (12x48) will be a storage space for my boat and a cargo trailer.
I will also make it a designated space for grinding, welding and other "dirty" work.

It's really a 2 year project since I'm doing most of the work myself. This year I want it up with sheet metal and concrete done.
Next year, I will work on Insulation, framing and lining of inside walls, Concrete in the lean-to. All the electric, air and water.

Getting closer!
We just did concrete last weekend. Had to cover it 48 hours later because a "polar vortex" was coming!

Looks good, you're making great progress! The drone pictures are awesome, looks nice how you got the fence tied in with the porch. What made you decide to go with the swing out door?

Also I'm in Kansas right now and this polar vortex ain't no joke!

Sorry for a late reply.

After getting obnoxious quotes on roll up doors ($4K!!!) I have decided to build my own door.
It cost me $400 in materials and about 6 hours of work. 12' x 12'. I now have it insulated with 1" Styrofoam and have the inside finished with 3/8" plywood.
