Hi all, I've read a lot of the previous posts about floor install gone wrong and eventually needing to grind out and redo. We had our epoxy base, flake, polyaspartic top coat flooring installed 2 weeks ago and the smell is just as strong today as it was the day after install. Temperatures during install were warm, low 80s. The garage is a single car garage, so just over 200 sq ft. They started around 8:00 am and were finished by 11:30 am (realizing now after the fact that these one day installs are the culprit of most problems), and we have continued to leave the garage door open to ventilate as much as possible. I bought a small air quality monitor as well to place in there, and VOCs remain low when the door is open, as does the smell, but as soon as I close the garage door the smell and VOCs begin spiking fairly quickly. The smell is that similar to paint thinner, and is the same as whatever they used in the process. Given that it's been two weeks, how long do I wait before we declare this a failure and push to have it removed? Will it stop eventually? My contractor says the smells should have been gone within a couple of days maximum and that he's "never had this issue before."

Edited to add: I get pretty lightheaded if I spend any significant amount of time in the garage at this point (it is where our home gym is located) but as long as I keep the door open I can deal with it in the short term. Thanks in advance.

With some saying that the earth might be over 4 billion years old, a few weeks or maybe even a month or two for your garage to become usable again doesn't seem that long. "patience, young grasshopper" might be in order.

I wouldn't consider it a failure requiring replacement. But I'm a boomer who probably has brain defects due to all the chemicals we were exposed to. Give it some more time, unless money is no object and you can afford a different system. Sorry to hear of your challenges. Better experts will be along to share great advice.

Lots of advice here: https://www.google.com/search?q=pol...Hdu1MxEQrQIoBHoECCMQBQ&biw=1920&bih=919&dpr=1

What percentage of solids was the epoxy base coat? Did they thin it with acetone or mineral spirits?
