Another quick welding wiring type question

I am wiring up an outlet in my new garage for my old trusty Lincoln Tombstone. Can I use 8-3 romex on a 50A breaker? (It is a 50 amp plug.) I know that normally 8-3 is good for 40A but isn't there an exception for a dedicated welder circuit? Thanks for the help!

Is this the old standby Lincoln AC-225 stick welder?
How long is the run from the breaker panel?

Yes, 8 is plenty to run that machine.

Yes, it is an AC-225. The run from the panel box is 9 foot. Thanks in advance for the assistance!
