Another RaceDeck Install

This weekend I installed RaceDeck in my garage. It's what the builders around here call a two car garage. They must drive Yugo's. I went with FreeFlow tiles, not only because I like the way they look, but they help keep my work area cleaner when detailing my car. I also added their AccuPark to make it easier to get the car in right to be able to work around it with the garage door closed.

It took more than two hours to install. Not only did I have oddball dimensions, a builder that didn't own a square and a HVAC system to contend with, but also a bunch of neighbors that had to stop by, ask questions and walk around on it.

I have installed the Racedeck Tuff-Shield in my garage and I use the Wet Swiffer mop to clean up any markings/messes on my floor.

Looks nice. Let me know how it is after getting wax and compound dust on it from the detailing. Have always been interested in them but clean up seems like it might be a pain.

As Jimmy mentioned, Swiffer is my friend. My biggest problem is sand and with road construction going on just up the road, it's even worse. My Shop-Vac just glides along this floor and the sand that has dropped through the FreeFlow is sucked up completely. When I'm detailing, I like the idea of the sand being under the tile where it can't be kicked up by me moving around or my buffer. The Swiffer comes into play with tire dressings and spray detailers/waxes.

Roughly (and I do mean real roughly) 19 X 16 ft. I had to cut tiles for the last row at the back of the garage and along the right wall. They must have used warped lumber when they built the forms for the raised portion in the back. I had to measure and cut each tile individually. The right wall wasn't as bad. I ended up with 4 spare tiles. Two of them were because of the way they ship the tiles in 4's and two because I was able to use some scrap to fill in an area by my garage door.

I agree..my builder needs a square, a correct measuring tape and on and on. I love how they say oh it's 19x19 and when I measure it means it's really like 18is by 18ish...I'm hoping I can get two cars in too...but more so a lift so, I'll just stack cars...and leave one side open...

I'm trying to decide which flooring I want...but, I know I'm getting one of them!! RaceDeck looks awesome!

Can you give a bit of detail as to how the flow through tiles work when using water in the garage? Does the water flow straight out and follow the pitch of the floor?

When I do a car wash in the garage, I use a product called Optimum No Rinse which limits the amount of water that hits the floor. It does creates the same pattern of wetness on the floor as before I had the RaceDeck installed. In other words, it is not contained within the boundry of a tile.

I've done one hose wash since installing the RaceDeck. Since I have the car pulled up close to the garage to take advantage of the shade, the front portion of the garage gets pretty wet from overspray. I didn't notice any puddles, but best of all, the garage floor drys just as fast as it did before the RaceDeck.

I'm sure the solid tiles would drain the same way, but with me being in humid Florida, I wanted to make sure that any water getting under the tiles dried as fast as possible.
