I recently purchased a old sears air compressor off craigslist for the motor on it. The pump had a broken crankshaft but he said it came with another air compressor to fix it so I figured I could make 1 compressor out of both and just resell it. Well when he was on his way here he told me it was just the tank, kinda disappointing but I can deal with it and talk him down since its not the same as a whole compressor. He gets here and its just a pump, not a tank. I figure well it will at least let me fix the broken pump (both are the same model pump) so I pay him and he leaves and take the motor off and take it inside and wire a plug to it and plug it in and it works so thats all I needed. I go back outside and check out the extra pump and i try to spin the crank and its seized up.. perfect. I bang on the piston for about 20 minutes and get it unseized so I figure I'll take it all apart and clean the old oil and cylinder walls out since its probably been sitting a while so I drain the oil and what do I find, not oil, but the pump is filled with water and some sludge at the bottom, that explains the rust. Well I took apart the broken pump and the pistons are completely rusted to the cylinders but I drained the pump and its also filled with water not oil. But I did rebuild the other pump and it works perfect now and cleaned the compressor up and it looks pretty good after a few hours of work
