They weight about 3500lbs and are close to 50:50 weight distribution so she likely lifted about 900lbs. Adrenaline can allow you to do amazing things. Definitely use jack stands and even wheel chocks if you only have one end of the car lifted up.

... Adrenaline can allow you to do amazing things...

I was talking to a guy in exercise physiology a while back. He said that the effect is too rapid to be caused by adrenaline. They say now that humans have an inhibitory restraint on their muscles to keep them from being injured. In times of stress, this restraint can be overcome. This is also why people hopped up on drugs such as PCP can be super strong. There was a woman several years ago who did the same thing in lifting a car off of her husband. A guy told me that it took four of them to do the same thing when they tried it.

definitely a reminder to use jack stands for sure.

the only thing i dont like about report like these are the CPR stuff.

the full story at the bottom has this quote "She got his heart beating again and got him breathing again," said Liz.

if someone needs CPR, they are dead. they will not start auto respirating, and their heartbeat will not return from CPR alone, they will need some sort of intervention like a defibrilator. CPR WILL NOT "bring them back" like in the movies, it only buys a short amount of time, until medical procedures can be performed, and the heart can be started beating again. if she was telling him to keep breathing, keep breathing, he was still breathing on his own, and did not require CPR.

no doubt she saved his life by pulling him out from under the car and getting it off him, but CPR doesnt work that way, but continues to be portrayed in real life like it is in films.

rant over

good save on the girls part! bad habit or ignorance on the fathers part! bet he will be jack, jack stands, wheel under, 4x4s stacked, the whole 9 yards from now on...

In this photo, you can see my bare minimum arrangement for working under a car.

I have one ramp under each tire. Those are a backup to the four 6-ton jack stands under the frame (sub-frames on this car.) Not visible is a very large old railroad/bottle jack under the engine cross member. There is also a pair of rink-a-dink Craftsman jack stands under the front sub-frame as a super-backup.

It makes for crawling around a hassle sometimes, but I like the feeling of having layers of security.

damn bull, i thought i was a freak when it came to back up safety under a car...
i use my jack, two or four jack stands depending on how i have the vehicle off the ground, and any wheels i take off get slid strategically to a point where the vehicle will land on them in the event of it falling. any extra jack stands will be placed strategically, sometimes in place of the wheel if im lifting high.

never been a fan of ramps, never seemed sturdy to me, even though they have a great record of use over the years. just something about them makes me cringe

on another note... you have mentioned repeatedly that the TA isnt all that, but the more pics and angles i see of it, the more i think "damn thats a sharp car!" i know pics can be misleading, and white is a hard color to judge from photos. i still like it! reminds me of a 73 split bumper 'maro i looked at three times, and passed on. have regretted it since :bitchslap

I like the sound of your system of layers just fine, for the most part. I personally don't like getting under a car that only has two stands under it, though. I like the car to be level. That way, the frame is sitting in the jack stand saddle flat, and not at an angle on the edge. At an angle, I assume the forces of the car are pushing the stands at an angle, whereas I'd like them to bu pushing straight down.

The ramps I have are very sturdy feeling, and as a backup I trust them 100%.
