Another service to garage thread

I am working on getting service out to my 30x40 detached garage. The plan is to run about 115 feet to a new subpanel in my attached garage, then running underground another 35Ft to a panel in the new garage. It looks like I need to run 1/0 AL with a #4 ground to get 100amp service to the garage.
The plan is to run through the basement to the garage then up the wall through the garage attic then back down the wall to the sub panel.
From the subpanel, I will go through the wall to conduit to the detached garage and through the wall to the panel there.

From what I have read, I can use MHF but I will need to run conduit all through the basement and garage. If i use RHH, RHW, USE-2, would I need conduit in the house? What other options are there for wire.

Any type of unjacketed wire needs to be in conduit.

If u use a jacketed wire such as SER, then it doesnt need to be in conduit but u will have to transition to a wire rated for underground use...

I thought I read that SER couldn't be used indoors.

SER can be used inside and outside above ground. SER has the same install methods as NM-b. URD (Underground Residential Distribution) rated only USE-2 cannot be used inside.

MHF is preassembled cable of RHH/RHW/USE-2 conductors.

Edit: Forgot to add... for 100A you can use three #1 Al and a #6 Al for the EGC (ground). If you drop back to 90A you can use 2-2-2-4 MHF for the outside run and 2-2-2-4 SER through the house.

To sum up, from your house breaker box to your attached garage, you can use aluminum SER cable, 2-2-2-4 with a 90A breaker or 1-1-1-3 with a 100A breaker in your house box. SER because you aren't running it underground, and you won't need conduit.

From your attatched garage to your detatched garage run 2-2-2-4 "mobile home feeder" ensure it's dual rated RHH/RHW/USE-2. Use a 90A breaker in your attatched garage to protect this wire. Both subpanels (the one in the detatched garage requires it) may have 125A main breakers. Don't get caught up on the 125A rating of the main breakers, they serve as disconnect switches, not breakers in this application. The MHF must be in conduit everywhere above ground, including inside any walls. I'd just run conduit the entire length but some people like to direct bury.

Thanks for the 2-2-2-4 suggestion. I originally planned on 90amp then saw how much less the 100amp breakers cost than the 90 amp and grabbed 100amp. I wasn't thinking about how much more the larger wire cost. I returned the 100amp breakers and have 90amp ones coming.
